Thank goodness for us that the Coefficient of friction µs for Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) (Teflon® DuPont registered brand name) is a low 0.04

Otherwise sh1t like that might stick

Well, if I'd taken up an activity just because it's easy and effortless, I'd get bored too after a while.
Sounds like a normal reaction to me.

New material anyone??? The above has been repeated over and over since the fast decline of polers in the late 90's

C'mon flipper,,your the new face/breed of poledancers that are leading the hobby forward, you are the only one here under 60,,,,show the old dogs something new and less predictable.

Give the young people a reason to give it a go,,,,,you are the wind forums youth voice and they should hold you high on their shoulders.
The youngens need a reason to try it,other than it is really hard to do and it takes till your heaps old till you might even get half decent. Not really selling points to the new "throw away" society.

Hey, I've only just turned 40...and it only took me about 5 years to really start to get a handle on windsurfing. Younguns should windsurf coz it's way cool fun, and the fact that it offers a lifetime of progression and new challenges is just an added bonus. Plus nobody in their right mind would want to be a kiter because everyone at the beach hates them as a result of their being inconsiderate @$$holes. Plus they look like such prats.
Just my two cents worth.

At the UNSW windsurfing club, we are actively putting young blood in the sport, doing beginner lessons for 40AUD/day and then using the money to buy decent second-hand gear.

BTW, if you have old wetsuits for grabs, just shoot me an email.

Go windsurfing ! Kitsurfing cannot cope with gusts...

so true, I watched them all fall out of the sky recently in the westerly winds we have been having up here and then they ended up all going home while I still had an ok sail,

So much hatred so little understanding really. Tribalism kinda sucks really. The funny thing is that we all owe our existence to surfing, the grandaddy sport. Can I ask how many of you surf?

I try to. And I'll keep trying.

It's not tribalism, it's these pr!ck$.

Like last week at Kata beach (Phuket), it was blowing onshore 10-15 kts every day, and there were maybe 100 swimmers and surfers (of all levels) in the water at any one time, trying to enjoy themselves. It just took 2 or 3 kiters to just about f* it up for everybody. Onshore wind, crowded beach.....duhhh, should be a no-brainer, when there's so many other places they could do it. Must've been Euros, maybe Russians, coz Aussies would know better, right??

actually I do both kitesurfing and windsurfing. But I do have a slight preference for the windsurfing community. I feel there is less "showing off" (maybe because the average age is MUCH higher), and more understanding. It may be related to the fact that a beginner in windsurfing is not a pain in the ass, and that I never seen an australian spot overcrowded with windsurfing. Therefore, I think the windsurfing community is more welcoming.

I've never surfed - mainly because the opportunity / circumstance never arose living inland & spending our family hols water skiing & fishing on the Murray River.

I've started SUPing though - does that count? (or is that a whole other discussion!?!)

Sail hack the reason I asked is cause most that seem to have this need to tell everyone else they are wrong don't, or haven't, tried another form of watersport. I say get out there and surf, sail, kite, SUP or bodysurf it will only make you better

Agreed, I said so in many others posts (go have a look).

However it takes idiots from any activity to get beaches closed, to be dangerous to bystanders, to be in the way. I'm sure you will agree there.

By the way, yes I surfed up to 25yo or so- Wanda and other southern beaches. So what about it ??

Have been a poley for about 20 yrs, surfed for about 50. Also kayak and fish etc etc. Turned 60 last year and haven't had a surf for about 6 months as I kept blowing eardrums.

Don't get your drift on have we surfed. Most people have tried a few watersports to get the best one they enjoy. I lot I know keep up with several.

Just do what you like doing and b_gger everyone else. But don't stuff it up for everyone else like one sport I know and detest!!

You need to go to the longboard and shortboard forums, or the SUP forum when it is invaded by shortboarders.

All those guys do is start threads that tell everybody else that they're doing it wrong.

Gorgo the reason for my post is cause it seems dumb to me that if you choose a watersport that isn't what we do then your some form of dweeb. I've surfed for I guess 38 years and it's no better there long boarders are dicks, short boards suck etc etc. To be honest I reckon more sports mean more time on the water. There are some on here that would go even one further and tell you if you aren't blasting or busting loops your not a windsurfer.

All this "My watersports the best and everything else sucks" crap that infests seabreaze ATM is getting really monotonous. Week or so ago I had what I call a perfect day. Forecast was for 30+ knots. Morning flat calm. Quick surf on the 8 1/2 footer before the Northerly hit. Zap home for equipment change. Everything in the ute. At the beach, 25-20 kts onshore notherly, Awesome sail with 5.0 mtr and 79litre JP wave. Winds swung to the west and cranked to 30-35. 4.0 mtr time. bit of a rest at lunch. Bit knackered. Mid afternoon, Oh look, Its right round to the south and nice 20 knots. Enough energy left for a lovely flat water session with my 11m F1 bandit and 134 twin tip. Perfect. After tea a quick snooze in front of the telly and the little lady wakes me to tell me the kids are in bed. As luck would have it she is in an accommodating mood. Arr Yes. went to sleep a happy man that night.
