Im not into kiting, but they do have a good Aussie mag...why cant wavesailers have the same style of mag as them and surfers? Iam sick of reading about pommies and paying so much for those foreign ****house mags!! Youve got to admit freesail can be ****ing lame too most of the time.

theres heaps of windsurfing happening all around oz all year and all thats needed is someone to organise a publication reporting on all the events and other happenings. so instead of saying how lame our current mag is why dont you create your own mag that isnt lame, ill buy a copy, hell sign me up for a years subscription

we most defenitely need a west oz based mag . if you go any where else in australia you will see how good we have got it here . on any windy day there are hundreds of windsurfers out there .so it seems that you would have customers waiting but hang on that would be a good idea and we all know that good ideas never work out in w,a . so i guess i will just pay my $13 bucks for mag that i read once and chuck or put $13 bucks gas in me p.v ,AC/DC on me am radio and head to leno for the day

there is an online mag that is pretty good.
borad seeker mag

www.boardseekermag.com i think is the URL.. just subscribe (you just enter your e-mail addy) and they email a notification every time the new issue is out. they got robby swift and **** doing articles..

alllllso the idea of a WA based mag is cool but i think the hardest thing to get is pictures.. cause who has the money and time to travel about taking pics.. so people need to take there own pics..

i think an online mag would prolly be the easiest thing to do..

Windsurf (UK) sucks...and photos are usually horrible with windsurfer with winter wetties, gloves and boots. Grey water, grey sky. format is crap with lots of little frames, littles photos, text written everywhere. beurk.
there are other really good mags but unfortunately you need to read in another language.
I reckon Freesail could do better, but it is a small budget mag, isn't it? However they are still a lot of ideas to pick up from bigger mags around the world to improve it big time. But in reality there is not that many windsurfer/potential buyers in australia.no?

true ninja about the glare..but look at what Pedro manage to do!!There is a way to get good shots.

Windsurfing Magazine (USA) is usually a good read. The odd lame issue too but the reviews are good value. Something like $45 subscription for 9 or 10 issues a year. Just pluck it out of your letterbox, unwrap and kill two/three hours.

The trouble with writing for, and taking pictures for, mags whether online or offline (printed) is that you have to be working (i.e. taking pictures or writing articles) when the best conditions are happening.

Who wants to be writing and snapping pics when there is wind and waves to be had!

You face two real challenges when doing a print mag. Getting well written stories/ good pictures and covering printing costs.

The easiest way to get good stories is to pay people but that increased your production costs. The same goes for good quality pictures. Essentially you need professionals to get a professional looking magazine. Surf Magazin and Soulsurfer in Germany do this really well but they have approx. 150.000 readers each month… compare this to around 15.000 for Freesail or Wind and Kite.

You could do it online but the production costs are not dramatically different and to recoup costs through advertising in more difficult than through a print mag.

BTW, you can work around the afternoon glare issue by shooting from a boat or better a helicopter (of course that increases your production costs). But consider how boreing it would be if every single mag has a story about WA. If you want to sell mags to a wider audience you need to have some variety in your stories… of course that again increases production costs.

Please don’t get me wrong. I am not saying it cant’ be done. Actually I believe it can. But it requires a lot of hard work and at the end of the day unless you have a secret benefactor you got to make a living with it.

Good luck if you think you can do this as a part time hobby with the help of people volunteering their time…

i would be more than happy to give my time free of charge to any one who would be interested in starting some sort of local mag . as the new race season draws near i will be at every race event as well as sailing every day from the river ,dutchies , leno, half dozen trips to corro,s and all round perth so i am sure that i would be able to round up a story or two . if anyone is interested let me know

Why dont we just get Laurie to add another tab to the seabreeze site called Articles

Then we could submit articles and pictures to that.

Perhaps just need a couple of volunteers to moderate AND SPELL CHECK the articles prior to putting them up.

Where all here on this site now, why send us somewhere else.

If you also made the pages available as PDF's you could print them out and take them with you to read (say on the bus, on the way home).

on second thoughts, you dont even need a new tab.

Its already there and called "NEWS"

just need a way to post news and article to it.

If we were to Pay for a subscription to the magazine section, that would go someway to paying for the bandwidth.

also selling ads for the downloadable print version could generate more revenue.
