what's your most memorable day windsurfing? - and it doesn't have to be because of the actual sailing.
I was just reading a comment on the bombora x-it thread, about how good they bounced when they came off the roof. suddenly i was back in 1986, when doing year 12.
we used to get all wednesday arvo off to do some sort of activity, and one teacher and me and a couple of others were windsurfers, so we formed our own "activity group". driving out to hawley beach our teacher suddenly said the f word, and hit the brakes. looking out the back window we saw 4 boards cartwheeling in the air, then bouncing on the bitumen. luckily no-one was behind us, and luckily it was 1986 - a few scratches was all the damage.
anyway i was feeling a bit crook, and the wind was light, so elected to not sail this particular day, so the teacher parked his kingswood s/wagon right down the beach near the water, it was low tide, and told me to just move the car up the beach as the tide came in. all was good until a sea breeze kicked in, and then i couldn't resist, so rigged up and headed out. i thought i'd stay close to the car to keep an eye on it, but everyone else was around a point out of sight, and after a run or two i felt better and forgot about the car and headed up that way too. eventually the teacher gave us all a wave to head in, so we did that. rounding the point we were greeted by the sight of his kingswood's roof sticking up out of the water. he'd seen me out and assumed i'd moved it. all i could think of was what mark i'd get for chemistry! on the positive side the kingswood was allready a clapped out piece of sh.t, and Mr Hayhurst (god bless him) had a great sense of humour and saw the funny side. (and i passed chemistry!!)
that'd still be my most memorable day.

Good one Easty, A1 stuff and will probably rank in the top ones as the list expands. I bet you got the chem. pass as he was probably very concerned about the possible reaction if he did actually ever piss you off.(considering what went down on a good day)

My most memorable day has a co incidental Bombora theme to it. I actually used to work for the company back in the late 80's. Started out making them then helped in design and finally looked after all the sales. One day i was out with the main shaper sailing a couple of prototypes off a beach in Sydney called Fishermans beach or brownwater as it's better known, it's on the Northern side of the Long reef headland. It's a good place to launch from in the rare easterly winds in Sydney. We were probably about 1km off South Narrabeen beach with me about 10 metres in front of the other guy and I glanced something out of the corner of my eye. We both slowed and quizzed each other as to what it was, but both had no idea. Still sailing toward the direction of what we had both sort of seen we were greeted by the amazing sight of a whale full on breeching no more than a 100m dead ahead of us. At the speed we were travelling we were right on the whale in an instant, so much so that as we sailed past we both copped the spray from the brute onto our sails. I didn't know whether to scream with amazement or head back to shore to change my boardies!!! We tried following it a bit more but it must have been spooked by us and didn't come up again for a long time plus it was swimming upwind from where we were sailing.
Quite a memorable day

windsurfing is hard to pick a most memorable.

but if i had to i have 3 most memorable days, all happened off the southern tip of bribie. and both were with peter nitschke.

first was on his tandem board which is more fun then i have ever had. p.s. pete wouldn't let me sail at the back.

second was watching pete get hit by jumping mullet while reaching.

third. was sailing in a huge swell and storm and then realising that the swell was so big that i couldn't see pete in the trough on the other side of the swell beside me.

My most memorable days is when i first used my brothers short board and got it planing first go. Thought i was screeming to. When i found out how good the harness invention realy was. And finally getting into the harness and footstraps for the first time which was just a completely new thing. Trying out my new board a while ago was up there aswell. First time i sailed a board less than 10-15 years old.

"The day i look forward to" ....................... going as fast as the GPS sailors or wave jumping/riding like the blokes on the videos.

My best day was sailing at Trial Bay NSW with a 2m swell rolling around the breakwall and 20kts NE. I never knew I could jump so high until that day. Nice flat water for 500m then huge surf out near the rocks.

speaking of air.... if i ever get a backy landed that will be another memory to cherish.

a pushy wouldn't be bad either

wouldn't complain with some mast high dtl

ok stop dreaming now and goto work.

Mines kinda like Rex's. Sailing off Long Reef in a honking nor-easter a mate and I were sailing alongside a maxi yacht. Heading upwind with 20 or so blokes all in foul weather gear sitting on the windward rail. It was pointing higher than us so we went back to the beach. Having a breather we saw what we thought was a huge school of bait fish just past the third bombie. We sailed out and as we got closer realised it was a big pod of dolphins. The bull was bloody huge and we just sailed alongside of them as they went towards Butterbox.
Just watching how graceful and powerful they were in their element was unreal. Cold beers in the car park reliving the moment was cool.
