hi guys
does any body know what the go is with racing in the nationals slalom and wearing a pfd do all the state bodies enforce the wearing of pfds in state titles and is it a requirement under the insurance to wear pfds while racing?
are there any good pfds to use with a waist harness?

Not enforced in Perth. You may only need to wear them if racing is on the ocean and over a certain distance from shore. If conditions are hazardous the race director may enforce PFDs.

All the racing we do up here, pfd is mandatory. I use one i bought from a marine shop and dont do the zipper up on it so that i can still get in the harness.

aus005, maybe the type that sits flat and has a self inflation cylinder attached would fit the bill if you struggle to find one that fits with a waist harness. I think they are legal, Check out a fishing and tackle shop, most have them, and will advise what is legal and what’s not.

PDF's were enforce at the Formula racing in Perth, they were not enforced in the Slalom though. In NSW PDF's must be worn for all racing. Cheers...Next formula nationals will be in QLD, Bribane, Redcliff aprox dates 22-25Jan2008...not official yet though...cheers.

most dinghy racing lifejackets in sailing stores are designed to fit comfortably when wearing a sailing harness, which has the hook at about the same height...

Its what I use if I wear one and it works fine...

The Henri-Lloyd ones in grey and blue colours are probably the most common ones you will find

If you are looking for options look at Kayak shops. They have some great ones designed to keep the jacket away from you head and arms and they have some good pockets.
