Just distracting myself at work and came up with a random question. Which is the correct spelling: gybe or jibe?

According to the New Oxford Dictionary of English, the correct usuage would be Gybe. However Jibe is the American variant of Gybe, so if you really, really, really wanted to you could use both and probably get away with it.

i have always thought that and id never asked
i read in books with spelling gybe and jybe or was it jibe?
