Mate just sent me this link. Seems it might be possible with a board, save a lot of mess, don't think I'll attempt it with the present project thou

a friend of mine made a kite board using resin infusion and show me how he done it . It takes longer the first time as you have to make a mould but it is very fast and clean and it is not as hard as it sounds . but making a kite board is an over kill to the max but it was to see if it could be done and the answer is no worries

G'Day chaos,
yeh, moulding kite boards is the way to go, but I was thinking of a custom windsurfer, infusing the final layers.
The site on the link implies you can do both sides at once, but it's talking about bulkheads and things, not sailboards.

I've done a few things using infusion and it is pretty easy. You could easily do a whole windsurfing board as they are made usually using the plug as the mold, hence no problem chucking the whole thing in a vac bag. You'd certainly want to make sure you had lots of infusion points though to ensure distribution of the resin.

plug??? not sure what you mean by this, I'm talking about a shaped stryene core with high density foam already laminated over it.
I guess you can't use resin infusion to join thehigh density stuff to the core.

Yes that's why I like the idea of getting the training CD, think the CVI software is overkill for a board.

It'd be a very frustrating experience if you ruined a board, think I'd need to get some experience first.

Thanks Kaos,
But I think I might leave it for a while, it's too late for this board, and I have no plans at the moment for another.

Almost didn't make it today, put the top glass on, resin went off very fast, might wait for a cooler day to do the bottom!!!

For some reason I didn't think epoxy was as temp sensitive as polyester.
