shallow inlet at Sandy point in victoria is Known as the place for speed.
But in the few short years I have been visiting the sand dunes have grown, causing the dispution of air flow.

What was it like 10 or 20 yrs ago?

apparently it has something to do with a Sth african grass, does anyone know?

what are the rules on sand mining?
where are the sand mining companies?
who wants to buy some sand?

Is there plans under way for another speed week?

Who is out there on the new crop of speed boards?
what are your evaluations?

First went down there in 88 -89. Was compleatly clear of sand dunes between the speed strip and the ocean. The dunes down the other end were bigger. they have flattened out now. effect the Was a lot less vegatation on the sand dunes near the car park as well. Not that it effects sailing.
Plans are well underway for another speedweek...

Hi tony

Yeah..wouldn't mind some sand....

Welcome to reality...good luck with the local "Green" council getting it mined...just so we Windies and kiters can have fun..yeah right!

I did laugh when you asked who knows some sand mining companies....yeah sounds like a night time operation that one..with all those interested reversing up with their 6*4 trailers...send me the digital night photos!!!! love to see them!

Speedweek is a long standing tradition..i remember Alan Gleeson from Sydney hurriedly getting his new sail numbers for speed week on his brand new set of Gaastra Speed Foils..yep, mylar if i remember right..lovely big cams too...yeah right!

See ya..another day in paradise...gota go and get planing

good aussie sand for those gentle fijian reefs, about 2 6b4's should see it chokablok.

As I remember cruising between islands with that old bugger Ian on our kites, those reefs in the middle of nowhere offered some great flat water areas for boostn. didn't see sailboards venturing there.

but surely someone wants some sand?

and I need some more answers.

a terrible spot for kiteboarding.

who would want to kiteboard in dead flat water with 20kts of ocean wind and land and launch feet from your car. it sucks!

mind you as both a sailboarder and kite instructor it is near perfection, just remember that sailboards on the speed course need to be allowed room.

just let us know if you want to be posted on our next sandy point week. Check out previous postings re: sandy point.

A bit of drilling and explosives is the simple answer to the dune problem just prior to a big winter storm front kicking in to take care of all the debris!!! But then you have to sort out the wind direction problem it's going to be gusty westerlys for ever and ever .. maybe blow up all the dunes behind the car park! or do what i did, move to WA...

see you later tony,

So Julien,

having deserted the multi seasoned shores of the world's most livable city for the greener grass type winds of WA(wait awhile). How is all that wind that they brag about?

here we've only sailed a couple of times a week in the last couple of months.

No doubt you will need to come back for the Sandy point week in Dec.

hey young tony,

I set off from Elwood on Anzac day, for a windsurf safari/move to perth, I got one lame sail at a place called bremer bay a few weeks later and that was it for the whole south coast of this friggin country.
Since I've been in Perth there has been f%#k all wind, apart from a tornado a couple of weeks ago, got a sail on the back end of that which was awesome...but hark ...as I write this and look out my freeo window it's howling - there loads of winter fronts piling in. mmmmm thu / friday looks good.
I should have left it another 6 months before the move, I've been keeping my eye on the wilsons prom 72hr details, sandy point and warratah bay have been looking good eh - nICE and cold.
