hey how are we all going
i guess everyone has a shed out there full of windsurfing gear
my wife is due to have our second child and we are in a 3 bedroom house so the windsurfing gear has to go out to the shed
my question is how do boards hold up if the sheds get real hot
what about sails being in extreme heat
its obviously not exposed to direct sunlight but i tell you this much even in a day where its sunny and about the mid to low 20's it gets bloody hot in the shed like a furnis[}:)]
will this cause board damage weaken them sails get brital
im thinking of putting one of those wirly birds to give it more ventilation
and no the new born baby cannot sleep in the shed

Greeny,

Congrats

I keep all my gear in the shed admitedly it's reasonably large with some height, It does get warm but now where near the levels your car can get to.

Great news Greeny - Congrats too Bloke!!! Our 2nd is due in December...
Boards - What I've been told is if you don't want your boards to delaminate, it's very important that you take bung out and keep them on the shelf/supports out of their board bags when storing.
Keep them as cool as possible. Hot are rises, so try and keep them out of the top part of your shed, keeping them below waist height is best. I don't know about sails though...
If you have a baby boy, can you call him Hardie?

hey thanks elmo and kecksie for that
we are having a boy this time round so we are happy
and maybe hardie will be his name we are yet to decide
ill make sure i put my boards low in the shed... and i dont have board covers for any of them either... and one of my boards has a bung... but the down fall is that it is only a 2.3m x 3.0m a hot box[}:)]
oh well any more tips would be great...
im feeling very disturbed over this move... ive spent thousands on windsurfing gear and i cant bare for it to crap itself because of lack of good storage space...

Hey Greenroom. I have stored gear in a very hot shed for about 8 years with no problems. With the boards remove the bung screw and tuck it in one of the footstraps. I used to hang a board on two loops of string and always with the bung downwards. You can stack a couple up and have them near the roof out of the way no problems. If your really worried lay your board bag on top of the board. You can leave the board in the bag if you want but unzip it. I find if you take the board out of the bag and really dry it out it keeps that new lightweight feel.
Lean all the other stuff upright against a wall - not a hot tin wall.
Good idea to vent the shed a little to remove all the humidity.
cheers

Get an air-conditioner for the shed.

A 2.3 x 3m hotbox

Greeny, dont you know that a decent sized shed is every blokes birthrite.

as you kids grow you will come to know that the shed is your one and only sanctuary and should be revered as a holy place, never to be darkened by womenfolk.

The shed actually works best if you can fit it with a fridge, armchair and tv that is permanently tuned to the footy.

back to reality...had my gear in the shed for years without any problem. The whirly bird is a good idea.

Have you considered moving into the shed and giving your kit the air conditioned house? Its probably the honourable thing to do!

Yo Greenroom

congrats on the bub, future world wave sailing champ perhaps?

i moved last november into a new pad which had a nice shed out the back for the gear. finally i had some descent storage room for all the goodies. the first thing i noticed was how hot the fricken thing became (i put a beer fridge in there as well and was equally worried bout the coldies getting warm!). about the same time i was getting a board repaired by wayne down at saltfever so I asked him the same question. he was not that fazed on it and said as long as the bung is undone you should be okay, as hot as it felt your shed wont get that hot to do damage. haven't had any probs with it yet, and i guess i do more damage when i am using it anyway ;-)
