I know the wavesailing in winter question has been asked quite a bit on this forum but i was just wondering if any where is sideshore in NW or Westerleys down south? Looking for some better quality waves than onshore dutchies! Do the breaks around mandurah work okay in westerleys as some seem semi offshore in summer? Anyone know of spots further south than this that work well? any hot tips would be great, lets hope it blows this weekend.

There are also little spots before getting further south than Down South, maybe you know them but in case not

- On a strong NW or WNW (and W ok) with HUGE swell ( you need the huge one..like 5 to 7 meters at Rottnest)..
you could try Long point, South Rockingam (basically opposite safety bay )...there is a car park there
and you need to do 2 tack upwind to reach the sandbar right at the end of the point.
There are nice waves, never huge but a good 1.5 - 2 meters,, and it's side shore Port ( which is rare on NW).
I personnally like that spot , rarely crowded....

- There's also Point Perron (Rockingam) on NW ...some people like it...I don't. but that's a choice ( maybe it s because I 've never seen it that amazing).

- Mandurah is good on Westerly but with a bit of south in it....big waves if big day...

- Butl I still reckon that Duthies offer its best on a NNW ....but yeah it gets ****ty when it turm more NW -W

Never sailed gracetown but I've heard and seen photos of it ...seems pretty awesome.

Hey,

Yes stephen, gracetown does rock!!! ... and i'll be sailing there this weekend

I liken it to pozo, not that i've actually sailed there; just seen pictures. Head to logo high waves closing out across the bay, and 40 - 50 kn winds!!! undercrowded aswell, as i often find myself wishing someone else was out also (gear breakage would be bad )

Have a good sail in perth, catch up with you soon.

Simon.

PS. R u going to rotto next week???

Thanks for replies
Ended up going down to gracetown with Simon. It's a super fun place to sail with about half mast high waves and it was sideshore enough even in the westerley to ride down the line. Yesterday on the Nwer we went to Margs and had a go at sailing the bombie, well more like the deep water around it for me as there was no way i was going any where near those mast and a half high monsters! Congratulations to Simon though for having the balls to charge down some huge faces and live to tell the tale! For anyone else interested it seems like there are a lot of places that work well in different wind directions around margs and surroundings, don't wanna give away any names though just in case someone doesn't appreciate it. It seems people pretty much just follow the surf breaks and they all line up in different directions so there's always one that will work alright.
