has any body ever used one of these starboard fish 's i am looking at a resonable short waveboard for begining in waves, and i have found a cheep one,

im wondering if they are any good, for the main thing i want it for wich is small jumps like 1 or 2 mtrs, and carving around the waves,

any comments would be appreciated
thanks in advance

NOT a bad board if its the white one, swollow tail ,3 fins thruster for playing around in the surf. MAKE SURE it foats u . U will find it different to ride , slower than what your used to but stable to plod upwind and carve smooth waves. With the wide tail and heavey concaves jumps wont be a worry, only keeping it on the water over powered,
If u get it cheep put it in with the kit, u will have your joy days.

I have the 76L and 86L. Best boards for starting in waves. I learnt on a traditional shape board but as soon as I got on the fish boards I was addicted. They are perfect for Perth conditions. Some love em some hate em. Its best to give it a go and decide if the style is for you as King has mentioned they are slow and bigger than the DTL shape boards. But when they are tuned right and you have sussed them out they can be sick boards. You have to play around with the footstrap positions, fins and position of the mast in the track. Just a tip I have put my back footstrap as far across the port side so I can get my toes on the tails edge for bottom turns as the tail is 43cm wide. Im riding my 86L in my avatar. hope this helps

How much do you weigh?
What sails will you be using on it?
In what winds?
The 86L fish is my light wind board or my formula board as Elmo refers to it as I use a 5.7m in winds from 15 to 20 knots MAX! Even when it gets around the 18 to 20 knots I am well powered to being over powered. Keeping in mind I weigh 63kg's
My 76L fish is my all rounder with a 5m. This is my favourate combo as its the closest I can get to the feel of surfing without being on a surfboard If you cant get a fish the next best board would be the EVO. Another kick ass board I have the 70L but thats another topic

Jordan,

I'm 84kg and mostly used this board with a 5.0, I was a few times "overpowered" but no worries to keep control of it
, as the board is not that fast, + it's really easy to jump and manoeuvre.
It's only 240cm long so it's quite compact and comfortable to handle out in the swell.

well i got the board an 2002 i think, the board is in pretty good nick few small repairs needed and there may be a little bit of water in it, but nuthen that cant be fixed with leftovers from other repairs so 200 buks i think is well spent, but i think i may give it a bit of a paint job get rid of the sun damage, i will post images after i finish it, and sugestions for colors or designs.

im not that good at thinking up ideas but luckely i know how to use an air gun and how to draw things,.

Cool Jord, welcome to the fish club
Two years ago I paid 600 for mine and it still looked like it was just out of the wrapping
I dont think I will ever sell mine but I will swap with a brand new Evo of the same volume As if that will ever happen

You can get them from surf shops.
Ask for FCS and get the smallest ones possible.
You can borrow one of mine to take to the shops so you can get the right size?
