any sound advice for someone not too crash hot at windsurfing? i got hold of a second hand board, about 130L, not vey wide, about 3m long with smallinsh sails. kind of got the hang of tacking and jibing at low speeds, still look like bamby on ice though. need to get out more i reckon.

went there yesterday. he sent me here~! good bloke though. had some interesting stuff to say. had a lesson off a guy called matt stringer. i think he was associated with onboard. he buggered off up to queensland though. not much use to me up there.

what do you reckon about board size and ttype to start out with?

Something between 70 and 100cm in width, and at least 120 litres. You need a stable platform to get confidence with first.

Hey hows it going, windsurfing here isn't anything like WA but yeah i was going to suggest Matt for lessons but that idea might not work. I mainly sail at Boggy Lake and Goolwa, i like the freshwater then i don't have to clean gear as carefully and theres plenty of guys to sail with both places. Especially on weekends during the summer. Also nice to be able to stand up virtually everywhere when you learning so you can walk back if you get in trouble. I would suggest either of those places. I'm not much of an expert as far as gear so i'll leave that to the others. I don't get out at all during the winter but as soon as it gets warmer i'll be out more, i'm to relient on my dad taking me. Anyway hope you get going well and good luck.

At last things may be looking up.

I've just arrived from the UK (2 mths ago) and have only seen one person out windsurfing; I was starting to think I must have found the only place in Oz where nobody windsurfs; it was getting to the point where I was considering taking up kitesurfing [}:)]

The only person I know of (on this forum) who sails the city beaches is Divaldo (probably the guy I saw just north of Largs Pier the weekend of the storm) but I haven't managed to catch up with him yet.

Anyway, unfortunately I don't have any kit out here at the moment but I am only just up the road at North Haven so you'll have to let me know when you are going out and I'll drop by for a chat.

Cheers

Better had, otherwise I might consider going back to the rain

I've got a wetsuit and harness with me so I'm more than happy to give you a few pointers if I can. I'm very far from an expert but I've managed to teach a couple of friends to waterstart, planing, footstraps etc. Just don't ask for any carve gybing lessons yet!

If you are only in Semaphore we should meet up for a beer sometime.

I have never been to goolwa or boggy lake once without at least 2 or 3 other blokes there for the whole time i been sailing. I don't think it gets done around the adelaide beaches very much at all. I'm hoping to head to boggy lake in the next few weeks i just got to convince my dad to take me. He reckons it's to cold in winter. Anyway mabey i'll seya around at some point.

Looks like the Adelaide scene just got a little bigger!

Bubs you are soft for not getting out lately, tell your dad to hard the F@ck up!

Hi Fromage, welcome to Adelaide, the season has been way too fickle for my liking, probably why not too many windsurfers out.

Kym, my wife, and I sail often around the Gooolwa, Seaclife, Aldinga, Snapper Point (Aldinga) areas, If its looking good for a weekend sail I will post up to see if others are going out.

Hope to catch up with you soon....

Dave

Goolwa was marginal on the weekend, Kym had some good runs, bloody shallow in the lake though.

We live South of Adelaide, up Blackwood way, so makes more sense to go to those areas, unless nothern beaches are firing (still waiting for summer to have that happen)

Also, Kym and I have discovered that the Victor Harbour and Goolwa areas especially have their own micro climate. It can be 25knts and blowing down south and still and a mill pond up in the city. Plenty of debate around the laptop before we go sailing. We check the observations at Hindmarsh Island, although this is mesleading as its set too high in my opinion! Also we look at wind strength at the Southern tip of Kangaroo Island, Cape Jervis, Parawa, upper Coorong etc.....we think we do OK with the forecast etc....

well its actully funny that you say that!! in the 80's there were a hole bunch of hard core long boarders from ki that used to sail from penneshaw to warrina!! but that hasnt happened in ages. im actully really really keen to do a trip from penneshaw to cape jervis. as crazy as it sounds. i want to do it to raise money for charaity. there is a guy on the island who has a 60,000$$$ rigid inflatable. i havent yet approched him but i think he would be keen to be a support boat. this inflatable is insane and would easily keep up!!! all i need is to organise it and the right condidtions. a nw or w 15-20 knot breeeze is wat u need! i have put a bit of thought into it! just need to take it to the next level. it would make a cool documentary!!

great idea, think i may need a few more days experience before i join you on that. if you make it an anual event, i may be able to take part in around yr 2038.
