I was thinking of buying a weed fin prior to trying safety bay, especially since the regular fin supplied with my board is quite large (46cm / 80kg / 6.0M).
Are there any drawbacks to using a weed fin in non weedy conditions?

Weed fins are great all-rounders and very under-rated.
They are fast, they turn very well, I use one on my wave board when conditions are light, points me higher, sails me faster, and wave rides just as well as wave fin.
You probably would lose a little bit of lift and upwind in more marginal (Light) conditions, but when it's windy (Mod to high) they are excellent.
