Howdy Ian.

Unfortunately there are no hire places on the goldcoast (or even in Brisbane that I know of). If you don't bring your own gear you will be stuck. If you are prepared to buy gear, Surf FX on goldcoast (ferry road) will help you out. Talk to Ian on 07 5531 3199

There is a caravan park right on the broadwater (the broadwater caravan park) which also has cabins available but I think there are only four cabins. You can see them in the background of the photo here acecwindsurfing.tripod.com/Photo_Gallery_5_5_2004/pages/IMG_0917.htm

There are also many highrise appartments around the broadwater like "the Rays resort". I personally don't know much about accomodation pricing around the place (hopefully someone else will), but it would be highly overpriced as everything is on the goldy.

Wind conditions should be on the improve from here on - nice 15-25kt northerlies around september. we tend to get some good but chilly winter southerlies about now

some photos of flat water sailing on the broadwater to wett your appetite

Hi.

Jon (from wild'n'wet) stopped teaching / hiring a couple of years back and has now left the state. There was a guy near the pool who apparently had some gear for hire but we haven't seen him about for at least two years. Unless someone else local knows of anyone who hires, you will most definately need to bring gear with you - i too am surprised that in a state like qld there are no places to hire gear, especially when you consider how much good weather we have. There is significant water activity on the broadwater (boating, jetskiing, sea planes, jet boat rides, parasailing, kiting), so to operate a hire business in the area is probably pretty risky as far as liability goes, and it's increasing each year. There are some huge cruisers getting around that don't stop for anything

cheers

Hi Aus005,

you have a couple of options for gear hire but most are on the sunny coast.

Deiter at Sunshine Coast Sailboards -
Peter at Caloundra Wind & Surf -

In brisbane go to

Patrick at Surfconnect -

unfortunately a drive involved. as haircut says the goldie is pretty thin on the ground.

cheers

I was on the goldcoast 3-4 years back. 2nd time and still loving it. I had intended to learn windsurfing while there (nice and warm, with lots of water). But when I asked around, windsurfing was not on the menu.

I ended up doing some surfing lessons as a consolation prize, but was a bit disappointed. Came back to West Aus and found we had plently of places to do lessons here. Haven't looked back since.
