Popular spots are launching from Majestic Point on the River (get there via Canning Highway, then through Applecross), or at Point Walter .. check in the street directory.

If you're keen, you can also head out south from Woodie Point, but you'll be in strife if the wind drops as you'll drift out to sea!

Pelican point and check the time-table of the Rottnest Ferries if you want to get a wave.

Mad Yurah could be good I guess, but then you need to speak to the local pirates down there, Poor Hardie and its Relatives.

shouldn't be much more chops than on the Swan river..but maybe?

a bit of South is even better for Pelican point, not as gusty

Kal is great on easterlies!

Yeh there's a great spot on an easterly......... it's called Elmo's it's where Elmo busted his fin and board grounding in 2 inches of water at 30 knots, there's a furrow in the sand bar, apparently a few dolphins have made it a new feeding ground for themselves,

So try Elmo's, it's the sandbar with the deep furrow right in the middle of it........

Yeah But!!!
I was thinking just the other day, how the transits would be on an easterly. Look at the graphs, rotto has more green than anywhere else the last couple of days.
Transits would be an easy sail from the ferry stop.
Could be very bumpy I guess, and you wouldn't want to go out to far, especialy if there's any south in the wind.
yesterdays swell should have got into it ok.
any thoughts anybody???

Nup, it's the north end of Thomsons bay, the swell needs to wrap around the north side of rotto untill it's heading almost due south. Look to the right as you're coming in on the ferry and it should be coming straight towards you.
An easterly would be reverse tack for us.
I surfed it many years ago, can't remember if it went better left or right. but the jumps would be good, I'm sure there's good deep water, before and after the break. It's just how choppy it gets, there's a lot of water between rotto and the mainland.

your right Decrepit,
If you are talking of the big sand bar that is there, I 've seen some amazing wave breaking and as you say it will be a pretty wicked spot on a easterly!!!!!!!
someone must have sailed this before

gooza, I go nuts too to think that the wake of the ferry would make it for the lack of ocean action!
