Hi all. I have recently moved to Bris and looking for a good place for a sail tomorrow. I have seen a lot of talk about the train and shearwater. Could someone please explain how I can find these places. I understand they are at the GC but not the specifics. Thanks in advance
a google of shearwater where we sail. at the bottom of the map and to the left there is a green buoy in the channel which has great ramps when the wind is honking, but you need +25kn and wind-against-tide to be at it's best for ramps, and sometimes mysteriously there are no ramps
thanks guys, great help. I went to shearwater today and had a great sail. Unfortunately the wind dropped as a direct result of me changing to a smaller sail... and never really came back for me. Oh well, I will give it another go tommorow as it looks as tho there will be wind again. Cheers
The tide runs both North AND South along this strip as it runs both ways around the island to the seaway. Somewhere in the middle there is no current. From memory there should be 1m+ of water at high tide across those banks near the island. Admittedly it is a short run at low tide.
I'm camping there Friday night (shhh, only illegal if you get caught) and it's high tide in the morning so I'm considering taking my board and checking it out.
Yes, there's a bank just to the south of wave break, i saw some guys over the holidays tearing along it, works well in a southerly. I think it is very weather dependent though, a sunny day and you can't see the water for the boats and jetskis there due to the boatramp.
A bit further south there are lots of kites around the southern end of marine parade. I want to try there one day at high tide.
