mmm, well anyone windsurfing in the usual local hangout today, sunday, would have been shocked by the number of kiters hanging off the northern end of the sandbar, complete with grind rail! We all have to share the common water space, so why dont these guys on kites seem to like to give way, and basically act as though it is their turf????? Plus they basically made sailing 3feet off the bar next to impossible, c'mon boys, if you are going to come in and share the area basically know as the windsurfing spot, maybe saying g'day and having a chat might not hurt the relationship, I really dont want to see an us vs them thing kick off, but boys, your kitesurfing aint so hardcore as you may think, so lighten up on the attitude a bit, and come and talk to a few of the local windsurfing boys, peace out.

actually Ill add to my own comments here, I would say most of the windsurfing community, would not have an issue with the kite crew if there was some communication, so c'mon boys, step forward and tell us what to do when being approached by a kite! Im sure we (windsurfers) are all as confused as you guys as to wtf to do! so this comes back to, kiters come and say gidday to the local windsurf boys, im sure you will find most of em friendly, as Im sure you guys are!

Hi md74,

I was there, and was initially shocked to see them out there... wtf? I can't windsurf currumbin because of all the kiteboarders there, you mean to say they're spreading virus-like to the only main windsurfing spot on the gold coast?

I think there were probably about half a dozen in the area to the north of the normal windsurfing blast zone, that's no problem as no windsurfers go there, but I did have issues with one guy who decided that he wanted to mix it with the windsurfers, and went back and forth along the normal windsurfing run. This run is quite narrow, especially at low tide when there are a couple of hidden sandbars. To his credit I saw him having a good long chat with a windsurfer, and he also seemed to pull the kite up whenever passing upwind of me, although I did delay flying the sail once because those lines were too damn close. Come on, we've got ONE, count it ONE good spot in a southerly, it's crowded enough as it is, I really don't want to see more kiters out there saying "Well, that guy can kite there so why can't I?
