on my intermediate years sailing, i never bothered to choose a place that was at least windy sideshore but instead a windy side-off. so i was sailing in gusty conditions. i kept on sailing at the same spot and at this particular afternoon told a local to "can you pls. keep an eye on me and i'll buy you soda and cheeze curls", easily he did. so off i went but nearly an hour of crisscrossing upwind i tore off the fin hitting a bamboo pole. i tried kicking to shore for about 30mins. and waving the whole time but just got tired. 2hrs. came by and still no boat in sight must have been now about 2-3kms. farther..i thought everyone's having their siesta it was 2pm. at this time a liter of supercold soda was my inspiration to keep on kicking. i did get rescued by a passing boat in a total of 31/2hrs. under the searing sun..i went back to see the local guy and by this time he was having pre-dinner coffee. he says it was hard to see against the sun all the time and got sleepy..as for me i was so tired i slept like a floating log that night..

was sailing for close to an hour when i decided to take a breather in the shallows..the local kids where thrashing around and it was the season of mating for the violet jellyfish. i knew the head was not stingy only the bottom part. so i cupped one and tried flinging it beside the boys to just make fun and they were scampering just as kids would do..shucks after throwing a couple the water that i cupped splashed my eyes and suddenly just got so itchy then stingy to the pt. my eyes were starting to shut..dumped my rig and tried to drive myself blindly but slowly to the nearest eye doc. imagine the scene very hazy trying to figure who the patient's where waiting and me in flipflops and shorts dripping wet. the secty. decided i should go in as she asked permission from the others. by this time by eyes were sore red and shut with inflammation. doc squirted steroids and what ever saline solutions to get the toxins away..as soon as it subsided drove back to the sailing site and derrigged the kit and head home..what a day that was..

One time I was on the windsurfing forum and all these 'regulars' beat up on a guy who was just starting to get involved with the forum, for no apparent reason!

The point is, I knew I didn't have any shampoo - but I went sailing anyway!!! Devil-may-care!! Sometimes you've just gotta take risks, that's all!!

WA, base yourself in Perth from Oct - Jan. Trip to Geraldton (4.5hrs away) in Nov and Lancelin (1.5hrs away) in Dec and you'll be set.

Sandy Point's in Victoria, us west ausies can't claim all the good spots!!

If you want good underwater stuff the ningaloo reefs the place, good access and sailing at Exmouth from September on.
