i took a night shift job so i can afford my 2008 kit, but now that i am doing it, i cant get out to use my new 08 superfreek wich i have been waiting to use for too long i took it out yesterday in around 12 to 15 knotts and it was beutifull, i actually got plaining on my 5.3 in the straps, on a short and wide board (maby the isonic), it was good, did a few duck gybes, some heli tacks, (well one sucesfull), good for the one hour i had before i had to go home and go to work

yeah now that i read it again im not making any sence..

try again....

work doesnt mix with windsurfing, no matter what kind of job it is...
i got offerd a night shift job (8pm to 4 am) at the main post office for 2 weeks before christmas, and i thought it would be a good opp for me to get money together for my new kit. so i took it.
(now what is annoying me)
i had been waiting for 3 or 4 months for my new sail to get shipped into aust. and it happend to arrive on my first day of work., (wich didnt/doesn't allow me to use my new sail)... its going to be windy for the next few days while i will be asleep BUT the one day wich i did get out to use it, it was while it was only 12 knotts gusting to 15, wich isnt good for a 5.3 sail, but i still mannaged to get out there and have some fun (for 1 hour before i had to come in and go to work)
. i got plaining and felt what the sail should feel like when fully powerd and it was great, best sail i have ever used, and supprisingly better than the previose years of SUPERFREEKS (possibly because it was onn the right mast).
good day out for the conditions, i did a few gybes, duck gybes, tacks, 1 succesfull heli tack, and what was the best thing....
a gybe wich i exited clew first, not flipping the sail for the entire run, whats so good about that?? well, it was only around 13 knotts and i was going clew first for the entire 70(ish) mtr run, started of slogging it, but around half way across i got plaining, in the straps, going CLEW FIRST!!!!, and what suprised me the most was the the sail felt almost as stable going clew first as the 4.8 smack(not clew first).. just shows how great the sail reallly is in light winds

but what im really trying to put across is that, asoon as you take a job that doenst allow you to take advantage of the condidtions, conditions get good!

any way i think i should get off to bed its is only 4.30am and i start work in another 15 hours

It's a scientifically proven fact, that the length of sailboarder's lawn is directly proportional to the average wind speed for that given month

Great edges but crap lawn means you really know you should do the whole lot, and at least you've made some effort, hopefully to satisfy your conscience/spouse, but you can't ignore the "wind tree", so you postpone the rest of the lawn until after that sail.

Good effort, but no cigar.

If you don't water it you don't have to mow it and in these water shortage times you will be doing the earth a favour
Also goes for washing the car, pressure cleaning the eaves etc.etc.

Maybe the tables are turning Adelaide might be the new summer windsurfing haven - I've got sore hands from sailing so much - the problem is getting around work and family to get on it.

Global warming - might actually be good for us in SA for a while.

Maybe where just happy getting a sail a week two is three is absolute luxury we havn't been spoiled like you westralians

Mikey, you are more spot on than you imagine. Backyard was a jungle from neglect,
(I have lots of wind trees) so the other half asked me to tidy up for rello's imminent arrival for Xmas.
Ill do the mowing this weekend and finish tidying up. She will be so grateful I will be able to sail to my hearts desire while they all chinwag.

Alas in Sydney it rains almost every day so the grass grows like nothing else.

I have solved the problem of maintenance and mowing by moving into a unit block. Fortunately I can store my gear under the building.

The problem of work can also be solved by marrying someone richer than you and with a good career. You complain about your work, how horrid and awful it is. One day your spouse, out of pure love offers you the chance to quit work and become a full time sponsored windsurfer.

I was offered that chance in February of this year. I was stupid enough to turn it down.

As I said, I am stupid sometimes. Some say its all the time. I got nine tenths of the plan in place and then I blow it saying something like "My job isn't that bad"

Then we go and buy an expensive place to live (almost all places in Sydney are expensive) and now I am the fellow who pays all the bills out of my pay while my better half pays off the mortgage in double quick time.

We also decided to buy a car more suited to windsurfing which is extra expense.

so much for "yeah mate, you will get more money doing nightshift because you will get penalties" (the front admin)
should i tell them to stuff it up thier rear, or stick it out for another 350 buks for 4 days work wich seems like **** to me

im angree,, it was also the first job i acepted from them, also a hard one, long hours night shift, so if they are going to **** me over like this every time i take work from them i dono what to do

Is that counting tax though? If they're knocking 33% tax off your $17.50 that'd leave you with $11.50 in the hand.. (I'm guessing at your tax rate - I really have no idea!)

I'd ask nicely before getting too aggro at them - after all you might actually need the job, or a reference from them later.

My guess is that you're getting $17.50 less tax, and they work out the penalties monthly or something (or they just forgot to add them in...)

So, be nice, suck up to the payroll lady and ask her in a non-confrontational way..

And spare a thought for all those bums that your tax dollar is supporting - after all, some of them probably windsurf!

its before tax but im tax free. i'v asked a couple of the other people out there who are on the same deal as me, and they are all getting ripped, but im going to give them a ring, see whats going on, and i will hold it out unless there is outher work avalable at myre for a higher rate,

but what is getting on my nerves the most, in the interview i have with them, they said every where is a flat rate of 17.50, and because im a "contractor" for the host employer they will pay my employer 24 buks for every hour, and they will take a cut of 7.50.. so this means that they ar taking more of the cut...

i am now calmed down a lot, and over the initial shock of it. but still you have admit if you got home after a weak of night shift thinking you made a cool $1400 and find out you only made $800 you would get pissed

How are you tax free? Can I be tax free? I thought the only people who don't pay tax are the super rich who can afford super accountants and offshore bank accounts.

I suspect the problem is this Jordo - they have to take tax out of your wages, that's the way it works, but as you are under 18 and earn less than 6K a year, you can claim back all the tax you've paid come tax return time at the end of June. And then blow it all on windsurfing gear.

I find night shift the best for sailing ( although I don't like doing the shifts ).

Into bed at 8am, up at 1pm, lunch, mope around feeling stuffed, wander down the beach about 3pm, sail for a couple of hours, go home with a headache from lack of sleep and exertion, do dinner and family stuff and then I'm usually passing in and out conciousness for the next couple of hours before I go to work and do it all again. Quite often I beat the 5 year old to bed when on a few nights in a row.

I'm making myself depressed just thinking of night shift

Come to think of it maybe it's not the best for sailing and I should give up

work that is.............
