Note of caution, the serious speedsters already have got the right gear for themselves, Note THEMSELVES

This is for the mere mortals!

Each of you needs to ask himself/herself a very important question. What do I want to get out of this. If it's the ultimate top GPS speeds, then dedicated boards have the potential to get you there. However, do you have the ability to get the potential out of the board. Or do you want to be involved have fun, learn how to sail faster and build relationships.

EG

Let's Talk JP's, just coz I've had some experience testing their new boards.

If the JP slalom has a potential top speed of 40 knots, but your ability when you've got used to it is only 85% on that board, then you might crack 34 knots. Which is fn fast. Whereas the top speed of an JP Excite Ride is say 36knots, but you can sail to 100% of it's potential..... then you will be faster on that.

Then think of this if you were 90% on the JP Slaom and could do 36 knots and 100% on the excite ride and do 36knots, and feel like you've had a nervous breakdown and not enjoyed the ride on the jp slalom, but enjoyed a huge thrill on the jp Xcite ride, and really enjoyed the ride, then what board leaves you better off.

So....... Don't get too caught up in the top end speed of things, remember this is what helped kill windsurfing in the late 90's.

You will learn more and sail faster on gear that is suited to you or just 1 level above you, rather than 5 levels above you, you may actually go slower!!!!

MMmmmm... I suppose there's not much point upgrading equipment for the "Challenge" until one can challenge one's equipment limit.

As long as the board isn't worth much all you're loosing is sweat & tears. And possibly gaining lots of experience.
Mandurah mobs secret weapon is slowly coming on, I've stuck some 3mm herex on the rear bottom to convert the freeride rocker to speedboard.

Hey team capitain, don't worry about the gybes just go real quick in between them

The good thing is we are on the same team so all extra speed is an advantage

Don't forget you don't need to get the latest and greatest speed weapon, you can pickup a carbon slalom board under 10years old for around $400 which will still go like the clappers.

My board is an old Windtech Prolite900 of indeterminate years with square rails (yes square) front to back.


I have on old speed slalom board ~ 10 yearsold that is certainly capable of these speeds. Happy to loan to the Brizzy boys if they want a try - gybes like a pig though - one foot wrong and you will be pig rooted off the board!!
