With the presentation of the trophy coming up, I was wondering if it would be appropriate to have a donation tin at the event. I'm starting to realise that there are a number of little expenses to do with this comp that aren't covered by sponsorship. These are things like postage for prizes, buying medallions, engraving of the trophy, web hosting etc.
I wanted a sponsor to jump in with some money to cover this sort of thing (and it really isn't a heck of a lot, something in the order of $300 would cover it for a year) but unfortunately it hasn't happened.
Hardie has been extremely generous in putting his hand in his pocket whenever there is an expense that needs paying for, but I'd like to see the challenge become self-sustaining. There are a couple of ways of doing this: 1) Donation tin at challenge events 2) Donation button on the website 3) User-pays system where everyone has to pay to be part of the challenge.
I'm morally against 3, and think 2 is a bit tacky... so that leaves 1.
Any one of those suggestions is fine with me - and please don't feel like there is anything tacky about a donation button. If 100 competitors stuck in a mere $10 each there's $1000 which is enough to cover it for a couple of years. I can't imagine anyone would have a problem with that.
I can see you obviously don't work for a major bank Nebs!
yeah i think no 1 is the go if you cant find sponsor money. i would be wary of 2 and 3 just in case there are any taxation issues would you be technically running a business then?
Agree with Vando! Each team captain should be responsible for arranging the delivery [by whatever means] of say $10 per team member to the GPS TC overlords! That should render enough to keep the hosting, fancy metal work and other bits going for 2008. In my view it is totally inappropriate that ben and hardie are dipping into their own pockets to facilitate this great comp! make it law!
