OK we have 238 registered participants, I reckon we need to get it to 300 if we wanna keep and attract sponsors and continue to attract excellent prizes.

Recruit a friend, get someone who has been away from the sport for a while to take it back up, You know the speel, you know the benefits.

Remember ben and I get no $ benefit from this, it costs us lots of time, we do it for the love of windsurfing, so do it for windsurfing!!

WE have some new ideas for 2009 and new award categories for this 2008.

I have prepared some flyers that I plan to distribute around sailing spots on the north side of Sydney to give out information about the GPS Team Challenge and encourage them to join the Punters. Sort of like a conversation point for people who may be interested and make it a bit easier for them too.

I'll print out some application forms to hand out as well.

Just an idea, and it's a bit away yet, but why not hand out some flyers at the Lancelin Ocean Classic? There'll be 200 odd keen sailors up there and there are still plenty of WA sailors who are not yet part of the challenge - even a few who finish towards the front of the fleet. They will be full of enthusiasm and ripe for the picking.

Hey hardie, would you think it would be allright if i can still post times from overseas i really dont wont to leave the challenge but if i have too no hard feelings?
I ask of this because i can get probably more guys where i am going into this challenge but i need to know is it stricktly an australian challenge.

Maybe it would be good for the sponsors that you have and to get more foreign guys , this could be a minor start with a bit of oversea challenges and if i do find guys over there that are interested in the challenge i would not put them all in one team instead for example you could put one guy with the MM and the other with the SRM and etc... so it all comes out fair and even for the teams.

This is only a suggestion so what ever you guys come up with all is cool and it still stays an aussie challenge.

Pierre all sounds good to me, I obviously have to discuss it more widely, but in principle, I'm for it!! We'll talk more later. Certainly tyou posting from Croatia for MBM is no problem. But I also like the idea of getting the crew over there involved.

This is the post I've been waiting 6 months to see.

I'm chomping at the bit to make the GTC go global, but I need "men on the ground" to champion the cause. There's no point adding in other countries if people aren't going to kickstart it into life.

The way I see it, there will be a separate 'website' for each country, with the states of that country lit up in green the way Australia is now. And behind the scenes all the countries would be linked up to use the same database, so instead of just state vs state you would have country vs country!

The nice thing is that most people wouldn't even know that the challenge had gone global, the front page would still be the same, except maybe for a tiny little world graphic that shows you which country is kicking everyone else's butt

When I wrote the website last year I put in the capability for a team to be registered outside the country, so Pierre if you get a bunch of mates together then you can sail as the "Fooly Sik Turbo'd Croatians" as it stands. Until then you're more than welcome to continue sailing in the Moreton Bay Mob as far as I'm concerned

Ahhh so many ideas, so little time to code them all *sigh*

I reckon the small group of Mauian speed sailors would be keen - they have lots of wind, some very talented sailors and no flat water; an interesting combo to say the least!

I met a few windsurfers on Sunday afternoon at the Pittwater and handed out some of the above mentioned flyers. They were all quite interested and if any of you are reading this it was great having a chat with you. You can see my tracks on the GPS site. I didn't break any records but had a fun sail. Now its recorded for prosperity.

Pity the norwester died away however I was glad I was packed up when that southerly buster moved through. Because I was the only punter sailing that day the results don't count towards the challenge but they are recorded as results for me.

Hey, I want to join a team, so who do I talk to.

Just so I don't drag any of the serious players down my PB is 35 knt peak and 2sec averages around 32 to 33 on a good Botany day.

Hi Des,

in Sydney I am pretty sure there are two basic options for joining a team, the Cockroaches and the Pittwater Punters. There is another team but I think its for members of a sailing club.

I'm in the Punters. As my post says, I'm trying to get people to join the team as there are only three of us. I can send you a flyer I prepared if you want further info. I can tell you right now if you join us your efforts will be appreciated.

The Roaches are a good team. There are a fair few of them but some don't post results regularly. Sam from Wind Surf and Snow is their captain but he supports both the Punters and the Cockroaches.

I only started the GPS sailing last April, when Jethrow started the Punters and haven't sailed much since then but I'm planning on going sailing more this summer.

Cheers

Happy to join the Punters. I think I know most of the cockroaches so happy to step on a few in the interest of friendly team rivalry. I'm a full time windsurfer ATM (wind permitting) as I'm not working so I'll be putting in plenty of water time.

I had a look at the site, will fill in a form and fax it off.

Cheers
Des

PS. Wed & Thursday NE's looking good.

Is there an email address I can send the completed and signed form to. Faxing is so 90's and I don't have a machine. Can't afford stamps cause I'm unemployed.

However if this is a problem, I'll find a fax machine, I think i remember what they look like!

Thats great Des,

Keep in contact. I'll see my boss tomorrow and see if I can start at 7am and finish at 3pm. I can only sail at Narrabeen Lake or Brisbane Waters after work as everywhere else is too far in the Sydney traffic.

Wish I was unemployed too

Don’t worry about dragging people down. While it is a bit competitive, the challenge is more about sailing with your mates and enjoying the spirit of it all. Hell I am not breaking any speed records but I have a great time sailing with a good bunch of guys The real challenge is pushing yourself and achieving better session times.

Hey Des, sorry to hear you're not going to be a cockie and I for one will be watching over my shoulder out on the Bay when you're around.
What's with the unemployment thing? Does this mean no more work for me?

Mate too many cockroaches around, have to create a bit of balance.

Jayne is still there so you're on the list if they need anything. ATM I'm holding off on employment, we'll see if I can last the summer, or at least until the NE's are over. Desire for new gear may drive me back to work earlier, but all my gear near new at the moment.

Yep C U on the water, but you shouldn't have to look over you're shoulder...just look straight ahead.

Maybe until I get my new RS Slalom's II dialed in.
