What about a "walk of shame" category

I say keep the 6 divisions as they are. I think they encourage a variety of skills and tend to even out location advantages a bit.
As for he validity of the distance division: I really like it as it is perhaps the least specific to how good (expensive) your equipment is. It is the ultimate division for encouraging 'time on water'.

Keep distance
Keep NM
500 would be nice
Stretch alpha proximity to 75m

And if you get a PB anywhere a simple little figure to show how far up the rankings you jump

It is the team "challenge" 75m would take the challenge right out of it.

I started windsurfing at the age of 50 but now in my 70s I do see my performance on the wane. In these times of aging windsurfers it may be worth considering a split somewhere about the 70 mark.....Herby

Herby, you're an inspiration to us all I can only hope that I'll still be blasting around by the time I hit 70...

Many thanks to everyone for pitching in, you've made it clearer as to what needs to be done.

The weight category would be interesting. Would they be something like 0-59 flyweight, 60-74 featherweight, 75-89 lightweight, 90 - 119 heavyweight, 120+ sumo? I think this might be a bit more personal than the age division.

I read Nebs ideas for the GPSTC and thought yeh it all sounds good, then I read further down and the discussion becomes what divisions can be removed and what can be added instead of. My thoughts are the 6 divisions as is are spot on if it has to stay at 6. If we remove the Nm and distance how is that going to make the challenge better, without the distance division none of us would have been awe struck with Sam's effort and don't tell me there isn't guys already trying to work out how to beat it (good luck ha). How good do you think Herb felt when he did over 100K's in one day and at over 70 years of age, how's that for motivation for the rest of us.

The original idea of the challenge was to encourage windsurfers to get together and it's doing a bloody great job, the best thing to happen to the sport in years

Anyway bla bla, my suggestions are remove the Nm and replace it with a 10Nm division and only count sessions if a wet suit wasn't worn

When I started typing this it was Friday, now it's Saturday, good night

No, Nebbs, I mean Total distance ever. I know I can look at profiles but just interested to see how much distance people are covering. Not just in one session.
Just a request if it is reasonably simple to do.

I like this idea, might persuade regular sailing gps slackers such as myself to wear it more often.

Weed out those that have not posted at all over the course of the year.

And a who has posted the most sessions so we can see where the windy spots (and bludgers) are in aus.

What about a printable personal stats page, so for example I can go into my data, set the start and end dates and the category ie alpha 500 then a page comes up with all my data so I can either view it or print it off.
I can then see how (or if) I am progressing etc. Maybe even a graph?

I know this is not going to be popular with some people but if this comp is all about getting every body on the water as a "team" why not have everybody’s results count instead of the top two sailors. and with the great datbase that it is you can easliy see where you rank as a individual

It started as all in but was found that the posting levels went up when the yop 2 for each category posted.

Quite a few people wouldn't post as they felt they were dragging "TheTeam" down.

Remember, it's all about getting out, doing your thang and having fun

Hardie and Ben have yet to negotiate any sheep stations for prizes yet

I realize the name is TEAM challenge but it has developed into a very PERSONAL challenge. Look at the data available referring to the individual. Therefore I think it would be a mistake to limit postings to Home waters. If I take a sailing holiday to a place that has better conditions than I get at home I should be able to post the results. Also ..... Keep the Distance category

To add to what Vando was saying about some people only getting short amounts of TOW. For some of us that can only get out for a quick after work spurt the distance thing just doesnt come into play. If I get an hour in then Im lucky to clock up 10 k's but then that is nullified by being able to get high 20's and low 30's so if other Cockroaches get out (we have a big team) then that gets us on the board. Also most sail at Botany of an afternoon and the distance there is much larger. So it all equals out after awhile.
I reckon leave it as it is, the cocnept has worked well from the get go.
Some of the categories are hard to achieve for some sailors but it gives you something to aspire to.
Like knocking off Sam's distance record, phht, easy as. NOT!!!

I like the graph idea for personal performance perhaps you could do it averaged out by month to show improvement over time and to see where it has been blowing.
But at the end of the day we want nebs out on the water not stuck at his computer adding extra features to settle every whim a challenge sailor has

I like the distance addition within the team and quick too. I would still like to be able to see a total distance ranking across the teams for individuals (and maybe total team as well). The data for individuals is already there if a filter could be added to the ranking page that would be cool but again only if it is reasonably simple. I think it gives some important mini milestones in addition to Pb's. 1000k, 2000 etc, 100 sessions etc. (Maybe there could be a work slacker rating symbol come up. Men at work symbol for those with few sessions through to figure in hawaiian shirt for the 150+)
I do think that something encouraging the bigger teams to have more peoples scores count would be good. 1/4 of team seems like a good level but I know it makes the selection of qualifying scores increasingly complicated.

One prob with distance is it does disadvantage people that can only sail 1 or 2hrs.
All other divisions are doable by most people.
not sure about 500m maybe 250 would be better.

ta Vando

Hi ya Vando ,i,m the other way.I rarely get a chance for a quick blast after work so for me its 1 Big sail a month

Maybe it should be total distance for the month then
that would also incourage more times on the water but not necessarily all in one day.

Personally I think just leave it exactly as it is.
Tart up the graphics etc. and if possible speed up the page loading (thats just coz I am an impatient bugger)

I think leave the distance as is, I rarely look at it as a category, but it gives an indication of how long the sailor was out on the water.

How About dropping the 2sec peak figure and adding a 250m/500m category.

MY rationale here is that the 2 sec is probably the most inaccurate measure. 250/500 run is a decent run that requires some work/guts etc...

Keep the NM - another real challenge - with rare exception a NM run requires the sailor to negotiate some level of chop/not ideal angle.

With many of the others I don't think the distance travelled really adds huge value - especially for someone like myself that works long hours and has family commitments. - I rarely get the chance to sail more than 2 hours.

Keep it pretty well as it is. Change the graphics, speed the website up on some of is functions but dont let it end up like the GPSS site which has become a little painful to operate.

Highlight new records people achieve for the month.

Use trackpoints or doppler. Either one.

Keep it fun as it is all about sailing more and faster which the site encourages.

Happy customer.

1: Nebs on the water rather than slaving on a computer is a good idea.
2: change the team view page so it shows the team members and all of their stats on the same page

Love the GTC .

Oh and do not change away from average of top 2. that rule as the clincher for me joining. If I sailed rarely or slowly it does not disadvantage my team. Please do not add rules that result in fewer people joining.
