That would assume that you knew the reason why people wanted the changes. I am sure a small portion of the people wanting changes would be happy to purchase that device... but I believe the majority just want to use devices they already have in a reduced capacity since they do not care to be competitive at the top of leaderboards.

How readily available are they? Do any shops carry these yet? I have had an order in for a Motion for over 5 months now and still on the waiting list. ( i have not been pushing this as i know they are doing the best they can in these difficult times)

Shops do not carry these devices. Julien accepts orders direct in minimum batches of 5 units (to save on transport costs). He has an Australian bank account which has made payment easier. I ordered 17 small loggers at the end of August and they were delivered in two batches, one (7 off) in mid September and the last (10 off) in the first week in October. It's evident from the change in unit reference numbers from the first and second batch that Julien has ramped up production of the small loggers. The first batch had unit reference numbers were around 114, whereas the second batch had unit reference numbers around 175. I.E he had made over 60 units in the intervening 3 weeks between batches.

Over 30 small loggers have been supplied to GPS sailors in SE Qld over the last few months.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the LCD loggers. The manufacture backlog of these units is still very long.

It's because I'm dumb and broke and I couldn't say no to an order of 16 that came with delivery expectations, to pay my bills. If I was sane, I'd quit.

It's nice to see them in use, it's nice to receive your nice words but I'd lie if I said it isn't a nightmare behind the scenes.

Julien, we love your insanity, and we all benefit HUGELY.

That said, is there any way a bloke in the USA can get one or both?

GPSTC guys, I think Julien is selling his devices underpriced, and both him and the community would benefit from a voluntary donation. Please donate a few beers worth and help to get this project take off at full speed. We know the product is excellent, and would fix our issues with approved devices, let's make it happen !

The changes to a two-tiered GPSTC was never said to be reliant on an approved device such as the motion etc being readily available - go back and read the thread.

It was due to some people just wanting to use what they had and post with it, and were just as happy for it to not count towards a competition and PB's.

To be honest, even though promissed, I don't suspect it will ever happen

I was making no comment on the proposed changes to GPSTC. That is entirely between the proponents of the change and the owners of the website. I was merely suggesting a cost effective alternative to sailors waiting for the changes.

I have corresponded with Julien regarding the availability of the Simple Motion Loggers. He has made and sold nearly 200 units, including nearly a hundred in the last few months. He had a backlog of 20 ordered units to fill. His current manufacturing capacity is 10 units per week.

I suggest that sailors interested in purchasing to contact their team captains and organise a group purchase.

So this week I had my first sail in some time and I used a Garmin device. I was not quick on any measure and there is no way I would be contributing to team results. Nevertheless, I wanted to keep track of my data for future reference, so I posted to the GPSTC, but I moved the decimal point to reduce speeds by a factor of ten. I posted a 2s of 2.6 knots which I imagine should not bother anybody in terms of effecting results. This morning I got the following email:

If you download through KA 72 there is a record of all you sessions in My Data/My Score/Score Details.
Alternatively you could start your own Spread Sheet and record each session for future reference .

I was just wondering about the difference between putting numbers so low as to not effect anyone and putting in all 0s? Can anyone explain the difference to the integrity of the database? Also, can anyone explain how any GPSTC user is effected by me posting single digit speeds?

Do you ever stop complaining? You have had ample time and opportunity to do the right thing and buy an approved device. Time to accept that the GPSTC is not for you and move on with your life.

Correct "0s" are allowed, that enables a post in the comments section, but is treated as a non post by the database.

There is a field for track/doppler. My fields are set for track and not doppler. If the database wants to filter out "non-posts" just ignore all track data. This would be the case for all Garmin devices and would enable people using those devices to post without corrupting the database.
