What should you do first?
Lower your expectation of how fast you think you've been sailing

Turn it on, let it get a fix and wait until you see "new file" pop up on the screen and go for a walk run drive or whatever. Turn off and remove sd card and load up file to KA72 or open with a GPS programme. There are afew that provide a free trial period.

Apologies for being brief but I'm on my phone atm listening to kid reading.

Go to
www.gpsteamchallenge.com.au/index.php?country=0

click the "register" button on the right hand side and join a team. Then you'll really get to use your device in earnest.

But as the other guys say, take it for a walk or cycle first to make sure it's all working. There's a lot of ways to get the set up wrong, better to discover that on a practice run first.
OH and another important thing, you need a water proof pouch for it, it won't last long without one.
A lot of us use a "Paqua midi", Whitworths in Sterling highway have them.

Thank you all for the advice. I bought an arm pouch for it and as an extra precaution put it in a seally lunch bag.
I will go for a walk and try it out. Then when I work it all out I will join a gps team or talk to some of the gps guys down at Melville waters.
I really enjoy my sailing, I was just wondering how fast I go and how far I travel in a session.

Has Mineral been abducted by aliens? The man I knew would have been trying to sign up Maddog as soon as he posted!

I know, that's what I thought! I saw the post by Mineral and thought "he's going to say the first thing you should do is join the Pinnaroos!" (Which is correct, of course!)

I love my Dmax I get an average of 11.3km per litre or 8.7 litres per 100km approx.
It goes everywhere through the sand dunes in to Steeppoint towing a 4.2m boat.
Drives like a car and can tow the boat at over 110kmh when heading north.
I take it into the dunes at Warren River and so far I have not bogged it.
It carries all my windsurfing gear and camping gear in the back. Unfortunately the board and mast has to be strapped on top.
The rear seats lack room.
I would recommend it to everyone who want a 4wd with good economy.the 3 litre turbo diesel really zips along

I reckon Mineral has had Maddog paying a 'nomination fee' and ' registration fees ' already and is just milking it for as long as he can..

I was amazed at how little mileage I do in a session - best I've done is about 40kms.I generally don't sail more than 2 hrs but I still can't believe the mileage some people do! I suppose if your averaging 20kts you'll do more than someone like me who averages 12kts..
