Hi, A question for the Techo types,
Has anybody got any ideas why my GT31's seem to only log complete SBP files.
There are always several SBN files stored but usually only 1-4KB and no data.
Complete data is only found on the SBP files.
I need SBN files for a comp which only uses this type.

I have as settings
Memory card.....nmea items SBN
log switch on-fix
Settings........ DGPS Source off
Interface binary

Change On-Fix to ON, too many issues with on-fix. The rest look ok

Make sure it's SBN 1sec, sometimes the default is a big number. And try log switch "on" And "file size" is set at "card size"

Not sure about the others, I have a feeling they're not important, but I'll check my settings a bit later, and report back.

Tried 'on' instead of 'on-fix' yesterday but still the same.
SBN files empty and SBP all good......weird.

File size is 'card size' and SBN 1 sec.

Any other ideas?

Are you getting the SBP files off the card or with navilink?
If you're using navilink, try doing a "save to card" from the data logger. This should produce a time bar showing download progress.
If this doesn't happen then you have card problems.

Just checked my settings, and the only difference is I have interface NMEA 38400 but I can't see that being the problem.

The only other thing I can think of is "min speed" you haven't got that set to 50knots have you?

I'm using an SD card and 'save to card' in data logger.
I use NMEA 38400 also.
Min speed at 1 kt

Well you're right, that is soooo weird. The only thing I can suggest and it's a very long shot, is change that 1kt to 0.

I can only think of 3 things that will stop data logging to card.

Bad card connection.
Card logger not turning on.
Min speed too high.

If anybody knows of any other reason, please tell us!!!!!
Seems we've checked all 3, unless the card logger isn't turning on even though you've told it to, not even sure what to do about it if that is the case.

May be a call to locosys is in order?

Card logger must be on since it logs SBP data ok.
Both GT31s do the same, which is why I wondered about settings I am using.
No big deal as SBP is ok for usual sites.

SBP data only appears on the card, after you do a "save to card" from the data logger.
If you have "memory card" "logger on", the SBN files should start on the card as soon as the unit "finds" the card after turn on.
I think transferring files from the internal data logger to the SD card, is a different operation to logging live readings from the sirf chip to the card. So I don't think that's a valid argument.
So that's a point, if you watch the unit after turn on, does it come up with "card found", then "new file"?

Very interesting both your GT31s do the same, that certainly points to settings.
Have you carefully gone through the recommended set ups to check everything?

I can't think of anything that would do it and not also affect the internal data logger.

One other thought, "settings" "power mode" has caused problems when not set to "normal". If it's set to "low power" that can effect data.

So if you have "memory card" "log switch" = "on" and "min speed" = off. when you turn the unit on, it should come up with "card found" then a short time later "new file". If you then turn unit off after, say 10min, without doing a "save to card" you should have a 10min .SBN file on the card. If you haven't got satellite reception the file will be meaningless but there should still be that 10mins worth. Being outside with reception would be better though.

In settings.......Interface was on nmea.
Have reset to binary.
Looks like we may get wind tomorrow to try it.

That won't make any difference, I think that's for the unit talking to other devices.

But you don't need wind to test it, just leave it on for 5min like I suggested and see if you have a 5min .SBN file. That way you can make sure it's working before you sail.

Tried that this arvo, SBP all good , No SBN.
No worries, I'll forget about SBN. Weird.

Really makes me want to grab your gps's and play with it for a while, see if I can figure it out. But NZ is a long way from WA!

Fixed it. Re formatted the card and it saves SBN and SBP now. Guess I had too much data on the card?
