I'm interested in finding out what the highest 2 sec recorded speed is using a wave sail. (must be GPS posted)

I'd like to think that such atempts be carried out on full wave kit including wave fin with waiste harness for a a so called wavesailing kit record but no reason why you can't do it on a speed board. I think sailquik may of gone a bit quicker with one on a speedboard long ago..this is what I did some time ago,

If I was using my wavesail on my speedboard it would be a higher figure these days for sure. The thing is with wavesails the number of battens can vary, and the more you have the better the sail will hold its shape whilst powered up and be stable to assist in going fast. Camberless sails are still fast if they are shaped right with enough baterns 6-7, I've hit 45 knots on the Ka Koyote in an easterley at SP, so hi speeds can be obtained but can't quite match the stability and locked in shape of cambered sails.

So where do you draw the line for a wavesail? 3,4,5 batterns? how its marketed ? the one with more batterns likely to win out from my experience.

On another note, for speed would a wave board benefit from a speed/slalom fin ? I'm thinking for a reach yes, but for a broad reach that it may not matter so much ?

The first time I did a GPS measured 40+ knots it was in the 2004 SpeedWeek with a 3.7 KA Kaos wave sail on my older 14" speed needle in winds gusting well over 35 knots.
A year or two later I did a 40+ peak on my 2004 Starboard Acid 74 with standard wave fin and the same 3.7 KA Kaos sail in a honking Easterly around 30-35 knots. I posted it somewhere in GPSSS.

In really good wind and a broad course there is probably not much disadvantage to a good small wave fin up to about the 40 knots mark. Soon after that I think they would run into big drag issues.
