It's a brilliant board. A great speed board for a heavier sailor. I've used 7.1 to 5.4 sails on it. Capable of more than 40kts. By the way, I might have one for sale for right price.

I found it hard finding a Speed board with volume. My JP is 84l & 54 wide where as a current one is around 10l less. My biggest problem is clumsy feet on the skinny boards trying to execute a gybe in rough water. Mistral sounds perfect for me!! LOL

One interesting observation I should offer is about rider weight. When I weighed over 90kgs was when I was fastest on this board, lots of runs over 41kts, since I have lost weight and have been 85kg or less, I have never been able to go over 41kts again. Being heavier helps with this board.

I thought it helped with any board ?

A smaller board, in lighter winds is usually very slow for a heavier sailor. Each size board has their sweet spot for different rider weights.

Pretty sure Peter (duke) would be under 80 kilos.

If it's a speedboard that you're after and you like the feel of the 49 get a JP Speed 54!

It has a big wind range plus it can handle the rough speed conditions as well. With the right fin it will fly over the short chop with ease. In the right conditions you can get it to 40+ avg's and 43+ max speed.

The wider tail gives it a lot more control compared to the 49 but it still has that loose feel to it if you use a straight fin. Only use a widebase in true (flat) speedconditions.
