Over 50's still quick

Is speed sailing the only physical sport in the world where the over 50's can be competitive with younger people in their prime?
Interested to hear any hypothesis out there.

I don't know how all those old farts would go if it was changed to 11sec in lieu of 10sec runs (says with tongue firmly planted in cheek)

Seriously though, the beauty about speed sailing is that predominately it is done on flatter water and in fairly quick spurts (not counting Nm, Hr or distance), so apart from the occassional get off (which might take longer to recover from) older guys are at no real disadvantage. Technique, experience and the guts to go fast are not age dependent. In fact the older you are the bigger your balls get (this by extension that they get a lot closer to the ground and therefore must be getting heavier )

Motor sport = Drag Racing fastest are all over 50yrs, something about middleage and speed, my theory has to do with loss of testosterone and the need to replace it, via adrenalin rushes??

I think that has more to do with p1ssing the kids off outa home and paying of your mortgage allows you to buy quicker kit
