Got one of the mini ones for my GT31... not overly impressed with the size of it and dont want to wear it on my arm, so I'm wondering how risky it is to strap to my mast (above the boom, below the boom etc)? I've got a good, reliable GPS watch, so I'm not fussed about looking at the GT31 during my sessions. Any advice?

Strap it on an impact vest if you have one.

Cheers guys... I totally hadn't thought of my harness :)

Impact vest would be ideal, but I don't even usually even wear a rashie (just 60+)

Thanks guys

I wasn't comfortable with it on my arm either but i quickly got used to it. Plus it's more noticeable when it's falling off. It's a pretty safe place for it.

Has anyone tried putting it on the mast on top of the boom as suggested? Can it be done safely?

I also find it uncomfortable on the arm. I find that I either have to tighten it to a point where it restricts blood flow slightly to a majorly used bicep muscle, or loosen it to the point that it can fall off easily.

I hardly wear a vest, and don't think putting it on the harness is a great idea as I spend a lot of time swimming so it would drown out the GPS signals often. And as I spend much time in the water, it would be easy to look on the boom head for feedback.

Just HTFU man! Sorry. I find the Paqua sits on my arm well , but a bit of something sticky/grippy inside the arm strap also helps a bit.

Best place is on top of the helmet or on arms or shoulders to get best reception and least error producing movement.

Don't put it inside any Neoprene vest or pocket. That tends to block the signal and destroy accuracy with heaps of errors.

Your boom head is in the water as much as you are probably! Your head will be out of the water the most. Just try it on your arm. You will soon get used to it and it won't be an issue. A lanyard cord from the Paqua around your neck will give you peace of mind about it slipping off.
