Interesting. As a ' featherweight' I tend to downhaul the crap out of my sails in case the wind comes up ( I need a whinch to get it down)..I might have to try a bit less.
While we're on the subject of tuning I know putting the boom down helps if your overpowered but I'm already at the bottom of the cutout.Is there anything I can do that will make the board more controllable and will act the same way as lowering the boom so I can get more weight on the board?

Moving the mast foot forward has a similar effect, but will slow down your board. Maybe also trying to move your harness hook higher ?

Guy Cribb reckons the lower the better...?

Sue, too much downhaul can also inhibit rotation of cam sails

Yes I'm starting to learn that. Boy the more you learn the more there is to learn..
With the video tips I suppose you could have more downhaul in flatwater than choppy as the board is more stable?
With what he is saying maybe I can use less downhaul and extension and then the boom would be lower ?Although if I'm overpowered I'd have less twist in the sail??

Have you tried a weight jacket.

I have a camelback 1.5 kgs but it gets lighter as I drink. I have a larger 3 ltre one I might try for winter westerlies..

As I have said many times, downhauling the crap out if your sails kills the power and efficiency of the sail. So where do you gain there? Now you just have big heavy sail to drag around and sink your board, and no power anyhow.

Since you already ride large boards 'in case the wind drops', use a smaller sail that is rigged for power and balance.

That shouldn't matter as you are still carrying the weight, the liquid is just moving from one storage spot to another, unless you have a leak somewhere

Also read get you body down as low as possible that will also make you faster plus better control.lower centre of gravity = speed.
