Are there already any applet for android or standalone GPS that could continuously provide audible information about current speed ?
i guess
1) constant voice update could be annoying
but if actual speed could be presented in the form of short beeps to ear accurately according to musical scale - we should be able to
exactly recognize accurately speed .
say 20 knots represents C, 21 knots D, 22 E , 23 F ..... etc.

benefit could be obvious gear and position tuning for higher speeds and also during the gybe to control how good we are .

You mean like the speed genie audible speed feedback in the GT-31?

I use mine all the time. Hardest part about it was learning all the different notes. The easiest way to think of it is the higher the note the faster you are going.

how do you turn that on?

Go to the ALERT menu and find SPEED GENIE. Turn it on!

I would think you have to have the normal Genie display settings turned on as well in the MISC menu.

The audio will indicate when your average is still increasing by beeping. When the beeping stops, your average has stopped increasing. If it starts again it is increasing again. Oh yes. The light flashes a well so you can get visual feedback.

When you stop, it will beep in a code pattern that tells you the max speed and then the X second average. The code pattern is described on Tom Chalko's website here:

http://www.mtbest.net/setting-up-navi-GT31.htm

Quote for Toms website: Speed Genie Sound: GT31 Speed Genie provides bio-feedback sound/light indicators: acceleration, max n-second average speed increase and also audio-announces the max avg speed result. Sounds are designed for GT31 mounted inside the helmet to provide sailors audio-feedback so that they can focus their eyes on sailing to improve safety and maximize speeds. LED bio-feedback is designed for arm-mounted GT31. Set (ALERT>SPEED GENIE>ON) to enable Speed Genie helmet bio-feedback. If you need sound, set (ALERT>BUZZER>ON). The bio-feedback is delayed about ~2 seconds, due to the limited bandwidth of the GT31 Doppler system. Please see README file for details.
