Hi AUS1111,
The general consensus is as follows:
NAVI GT11 - Use doppler for most things, but trackpoints for alphas
NAVI GT31 - Use doppler for everything
Garmin - Use 2 second trackpoint, or 1 second trackpoint if you can set your device up this way.
Please note that there is now a new section of the rules, which reads:
Responsibility:
You are responsible for your own data. You must believe that you actually did a certain speed before you post that number, however you work it out. This website works mostly by the honesty system, and if you aren't honest with your numbers, then you will be found out eventually.
However you decide to work out your numbers, the idea is to be as honest as possible. I hope that the explicit declaration of doppler/trackpoint makes it a bit more transparent as to who's using what. I'm not going to set in stone which system you should use, as this should be up to the person concerned depending on their individual circumstances. For example, there are times when you might decide to use a different system because some data is invalid. Sometimes people have posted the display max speed because their track was invalid, for example. I have no problem with that.
I'm very pleased to see the 2008 winners (Swan River Mob) proudly using doppler, I think this sends the right message about which system to use.
