Hardie,
I gather your knees must be feeling it after 3 days straight. I always like to use the "Old bull young bull" analogy nowadays. No point rushing around wearing yourself out - just take your time and have a rest now and then and finish all those cows in good time.

Nah Strangely?, The lateral Ligaments DONT seem to be affected at all by just normal windsurfing, The Physio said it was most probably a biomechanical issue, with walking long distances thru soft sand, body twisted dragging gear, placed a lot of strain on the ligaments laterally, just normal wsurfin OK, this is just a whinge from a fat old sore fatigued lazy old bastard with an aching body

Yeh just gotta be sensible would like to be windsurfing well into my 60's and hopefully 70's so better not wear the old bull out too early

I know exactly what you mean. My body needs rest.

But isn't it a wonderful problem to have? Regular fresh seabreezes. Yay!

That's just not about age.
I remember a time when I was only 30 and I had been out for 6 hrs + a few days in a row. On the last day, my girlfriend (now wife) had to de-rig for me, and piggy-back me from the car to bed when I got home.

Yup, she is a beauty, and no, she does not have a sister.

I took a year off the season before last and it was a ripper, sailed about 5 days out of seven, 4-5 hours a day.

The problem is my body is still recovering from various RSI's and the pounding on my trashed knees. I think I did about 5 years of windsurfing milage in one season. The old body definitely doesn't have the resilience it once did..

windsurfing from my experience has very little long term impact on your body.

you can feel shattered but usually next day ok, very low impact sport.

try playing a full competitive 90 minute game of footy or soccer and see what you feel like next day.

i tried squash but after a tough 4 or 5 game match i would wake up with torn muscles in back-side and thighs, took about 3 days to walk properly again.had to give it away it was killing me.

playing tennis on hardcourts is another sport very tough on body, especially the lower back, the impact is crucifying on body.

w/surfing requires very little agility, that's why bfc can compete at high level, strength and weight are the key.

i hardly ever sail on the ocean it's too difficult,i'm more of a mill-pond sailor on swan-river i have to admit.probably why i have not improved my technique.

where i sail in melville perth there are many ''mill-pond sailors'' they sail 400m out to the sandbank and then back to the carpark.

point walter on river is another as is bay at Rockingham, can't see what they get out of it unless doing gps runs.

peli-point on river is much more fun and demanding.

........Its perfect 15 knots side off, with a clean 1.5m swell peeling beautifully to the beach in the bay. My keen (young) mate even offers to carry my rig over to the beach, but I say 'Nah.... I think I'll just go for a quiet cruise on the inlet'
