this was the course that vando clocked his 43 knot run on thursday. earlier in the day it was knee high chop and the guys were doing 36 knots through it. pierre clocked a 42+ knot run as well and both were consistantly over 40 knots.

not exactly flat.

i think the boys had an e or 2 amongst them on thursday also. either that or they were cold and needed to hug out on the water to warm up. [}:)]

it's been so long since we've had wind that strong. farrrk it was good.~!

i wanna sail in 70 knots. most i've done is 45-50 and had a ball

haha neither was i, i was scared let me tell you. cowering behind a bbq.

funny story,

the euro tourist beside me (crouched behind a bbq) says to me "how long is this going to last and will it get worse?"

i calmly responded "this, oh this is just a little storm in australia"
meanwhile a car beside us gets it's roof caved in by a falling tree.

that storm had, lightning, hail, floods and a little wrath of god.

Ahhhhh, I have tried to sail a coupla times in 50-60+ and.............um......... well........ I actually have very little interest in doing it again. 35-45 is plenty enough for me I can assure you.

To be honest Hardie this is not my skill with a camera, i was on my way back from a Muse concert so missed it the only reason i can remember the date so well.

Forgot to say Nick had a spell of speedsurfing back in November got a 39.24 10 second average, second to the mighty Pete Young (The Matrix) in Portland Harbour and 42.06 max.
Gives me hope he weighs 72 kilos same as me.
Who says you have to be heavy for speed sailing.

Remember when me and Zo were down there a few years ago, I remember reading about the great storm of 1824 that pretty much destroyed the town ....

@ nebbian, and here's to many more goodtimes nebs.

@ sailquik, at 105kg i handle a fair amount of wind. if we had 60 knots come through i'd go and buy a 3.5m sail to celebrate or maybe grab the kids rig.

Similar to the Isle of Portland Storm of 2009, but with windsurfing!! Very gutsy effort.

Amazing footage in France and strangely you don't get a feel for the size of the sea at portland but here is a picture of Pulpit Rock on a normal day with people to scale against it.

The funny thing is on this day the boys in the pictures were out on 6m,5.6 and a 5.0 how Si was holding the 6m down (sail number 115) i will never know?

It was the quickest time i have exited the water!!! the green clouds and lightning made me think it could be bad! That shelter was awesome as well as the snags and beer!!!
