Winds: North to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots becoming northeasterly 15 to 20 knots during the afternoon then increasing to 20 to 25 knots by early evening. Winds increasing to northeasterly 25 to 30 knots later in the evening.

well, after 2 weeks of very little wind at hawks nest, i got back yesterday & headed down to botany for some reliable nor-easter albeit a bit later in the afternoon.
But, upon turning into bestic street.....WTF !!!!!!!
absolute carnage. - 40 mins of trying for a park.
There appears to be a system running among our "hubbly bubbly smoking friends" whereupon when they are leaving, they will not drive their cars away from a park until one of the cousins has turned up in a re-birthed beema to take it.
it was killing me watching it going off on the water, but not able to do anything about it.
disaster !!!!

Why did you not go to the new carpark just after crossing the bridge? There is a lot more parking up there and a huge amount of grass to rig on. The downer is the long path to and from the beach, no shade plus the water taps are up near the road.

I've only heard of the new carpark being filled once but have not seen it myself.

Time for a Reality Check

In all fairness, as far as parking spots, you'd probably do the same for one of your sailing buddies - I know I would.

At one stage I counted 30 sailors on the water. If you add the ones sitting on the beach, rigging up or derigging or just chatting and you allow 1 car (ful of gear) per sailor, parking was always going to be a premium on this hot breezy Sunday -"hubbly bubbly smoking friends" aside.

We all would love to just pull up to the beach (me included) rig up and sail away - its Sydney and its not going to happen.
Try Balmoral (where you pay) a bit later in the afternoon on a hot Sunday next time (good luck)

As Moby and FormulaN pointed out, there are other options.

FYI, the new car park was full yesterday, which wasn't the case on previous windy days.
And there was more people than usual on the water.

Another option is to keep heading down to Ramsgate. The only time I've seen the carpark full is when there was a Fast 4's, Rotaries and Sub Woofer convention.

It can be in a bit of a wind hole & bumpy, but there are magic runs straight across to Kurnell

The car park north of bestic street was full by 2pm. 25+ knots of wind cleared it out pretty quickly as the day went on.

When that car park gets full, people park on the adjacent grass area, it's huge. The grass area did serve well as a parking spot for many. There were authorities around but didn't see any one with a parking fine.

Glad I don't live in Sydney..no worries up at Lake Macquarie..still missed the NE Sunday though..[}:)]I decided I'd get the one on Mon ..yeah right..blew NW didnt it..[}:)]

I think that we should count our blessings and be glad that the multi million dollar desal plant has made a great contribution to windsurfing.

Everytime I've been down to the new parking area I've managed to get a spot and there's acres of grass area for rigging.

The only thing missing is a trees! They could have planted some mature trees rather than the puny little sapplings.

All we need to do is bring down some cut up coke bottles and tape to cover those nasty metal spikes!

BTW the latest forecast is for NE up to 30 knots! my BBQ is cancelled...and I have a new board to test out!

Well I almost died in the 40+ heat notching brownie points by reducing the fire hazard around the place and pulling mats of grass out of the dam so I could go sailing ..Got to Coal Pt & its blowing 10 -15kts + ..rigged up & died in the bum..grr[}:)]
