I'm watching the chart and thisnkning about going there myself.
I finish work in a few hours.
Will there be bumps, or just flat water stuff ? I'm carrying a few war injuries from my ski trip, and not sure if I'm up to getting flogged around at Currumbin. It's still too southerly there yet anyway, so I was thinking Shearwater might be good.
Either way, it should be a good sail.
What is the tide doing there, and what is best ?

Made it to Shearwater at about 1440 and sailed for 3 hours or more. It came in a really solid 25 kts toward the end after some ups and downs and I was a bit over-powered on a 6.2 BUT the new freestyle board was awesome.
Haircut was right about the fin, plenty big enough. A bigger fin might help in marginal conditions, but powered up, the funny stubby stock 24 was way OK.
Gybing is a bit different to my older narrower boards, and I fell off more than a few times, but I was planing out of a lot as well, so that was good. Still trying to recover my old skill at gybing from my glory days.
Next time I go to a flat water sail, I might take my old Wind Tech 8'8" and see if I can still gybe it like I used to. Should be interesting.
Altogether a great day today !!

The train is right at the eastern end of Smith St, Southport. Opposite Sea World

Shearwater is further North, around Runaway bay?????

(A) Shearwater is Shearwater Esp, Runaway Bay.

(B) Train is the little carpark at the end of North St.

(C) KFC is the park behind kfc, Marine Parade.

I don't think the train is that good if the wind is from a southerly direction? Haircut can probably fill you in. I prefer to launch from KFC now, nicer rigging area, and easier to get a park.

Predictions and actuals aren't matching (what a (pleasant) surprise).

Good tide for Shearwater this weekend. Are actuals graphs accurate?

Will I get a sail in this weekend? What's going on up there? Sounds windy in background when calling home

I drove a boat past shearwater a couple of weekends ago. There were about a dozen kites out.

You really can't keep track of dozens of sailors crossing your path from left to right. I was surprised how hard it is, impossible even. I had to drop off the plane for safety.

Just a note that you should always give way to all boats, no matter what the rules are. God, I sound like an Easter safety message.

That said boats travelling South at Shearwater can put out a perfect wake for jumping

Was it crowded yesterday ?
I saw the chart, but was put off by likely boat traffic.

^ With all the sailing traffic between Runaway Bay and Hollywell they'll likely make it a 6 knot zone all the way through. Eventually.

I'm there with bells on, around 12. Bringing everything to ensure planing time. Each session is precious nowadays.

RC Helis: On a side note the Blade SR won Australian Hobby toy of the year 2010. Interesting because I'm not sure that A) 2010 has finished yet B) They have even landed in the country. bladehelis.blogspot.com/2010/03/blade-sr-wins-prestigious-australian.html

C) I still want one.
D) This mac is killing me.
