I drove a boat past shearwater a couple of weekends ago. There were about a dozen kites out.
You really can't keep track of dozens of sailors crossing your path from left to right. I was surprised how hard it is, impossible even. I had to drop off the plane for safety.
Just a note that you should
always give way to all boats, no matter what the rules are. God, I sound like an Easter safety message.
That said boats travelling South at Shearwater can put out a perfect wake for jumping
