About 30 years ago, after sighting the third LARGE shark lurking outside the breaking waves I reverted to beer and land based activities

Just south of K'gari on the Rainbow Beach side of Double Island Pt, shifting sand forms a salt water lagoon that can sometimes work really well in a NEer

As other mentioned… sharks galore however
waddy point gets any S/SE swell and is cross off in southerly so every time I’ve been there I’ve drooled over the down the line wavesailing conditions but in reality you’d need a JetSki as a support to be safe as the sand bank is a bit off shore

Was at di today. The main lagoon is looking very big and excellent for blasting. It stunk though.
Wind was a light northerly. Found a good bank further towards the point that’s cross shorish for waves. Unfortunately the waves were quite small and wind too light so i fished instead.

Fwiw. The guys that surf fraser have jetski that pick them up as soon as the wave ends. Sharky is an understatement.
there is also a vid floating around of a spear fisherman getting almost eaten by a great white once surfaced. Scary stuff.

p.s. Shark island is their name for fraser island

1990 I was working at orchid beach resort for Rainbow beach construction renovating the resort
I had my wave sailing gear with me and one day it was so on ...5-6 foot perfect conditions
rigged up and had a blast all afternoon.
I blew it on one wave and had the feeling just get back on the board fast
kept sailing best conditions
later that night I went up to the bar after dinner and these 2 fishermen came up and talked to me
One of them asked "were you that young guy out there on that windsurfer thing"
I answered yes so much fun
he asked did I see anything I said no but did not have a 100% great feeling butbthe conditions were great
He goes "you did not see that 18foot Tiger Shark following you around all afternoon"
well I did not go out again
From the resort you ar up high and have a great view all the way to the point.....
so in answer to your question yes ...but I would not do it again

I only got to sail waddy point in small waves using a windsup as there was not enough wind to use my wave board, have also explored the west coast and hervey bay on raceboards, and wave sailed rainbow beach back in the 80s. Frazer has always had a sharky reputation despite the statistics showing fewer attacks than other places, but that is probably due to lower swimmer/surfer numbers and differing marine species dynamics. Certain times of year may be more risky due to migratory habits of other sea life like whales, mullet and tailor.
