Where are you moving to? Qld is a very big state. What kind of windsurfing do you prefer - surf, bump and jump or GPS sailing. I mainly GPS sail.

SE QLD

Wind:
- spring: best season with consistent NE & SE 10 to 20 kts with occasional +20kt sessions
- summer: similar to spring but NEers usually less reliable and SEers more prevalent
- Autumn: inconsistent SEers and the occasional westerly
- Winter: A few cranking westerlies

Spots:
Gold Coast Broadwater
- Marine Parade near KFC: NE and SE Flat water, short runs but lots of water craft
- Marine Parade near grand hotel: S to SE similar to KFC
- Shearwater St Runnaway bay: SE very bumpy with strong tidal current
Others who regularly sail there can provide info on wave sailing on the gold coast

Moreton Bay
- Wynnum: Gets good NEers, mainly choppy water with some tide dependent flatter water towards Lyton
- Manly (Harbour breakwater and RQYS beach: SEers, very choppy
- Lota Creek: N Either sail over from Wellington point or reasonable long walk to water from Lota. Flat water at low tide - look out for the bull sharks!
- Wellington Point western side of sand bank: NNE to E (up to 4kts less strength than Wynnum) flat water behind the bank with tide less than 1.6m
- Wellington point eastern side of sand bank: SW to W flat water behind the bank on rising or falling tide for up to 1 hour as bank goes under or becomes exposed at 1.6m
- Wellington point jetty side: SSE to ESE: Relatively flat water at low tide, reasonable chop over mud flats at high tide
- Carolina St / Cox bank: SE Long walk to the water but good flat water sailing behind the bank in tides less than 1.2m. Wind needs to be +20kts
- Victoria Point: S Bumpy water in the bay at all tides and flat water behind Couchiemudlo mud flats with tides less than 0.6m

Sunshine Coast
- Golden beach (near Caloundra): NE and SE gusty wind reasonable water
- Lake Weyba (near Noosa): NE to S gusty shallow lake reasonable water
- Lake Cootharaba (Near Tewantin) gusty NE to S can be very rough water in SE

Hervey Bay
- Urangan NE to SE Bumpy open bay sailing
- Burrum heads: ESE to S when the wind and tides line up this is the premier flat water sailing destination in SE Qld with a potential 6km run behind the sand bank. Tide must be less than 1.0m. Only works a handful of times a year, mainly in feb / march / april when we sometimes get a low pressure system in the southern coral sea

The beach near the Sailing Club ( the old Catalina launch site) seems to be the fave spot; otherwise Queens Beach ( not to be confused with Queens Beach at Redcliffe my original sailing haunt), depending on wind direction. There will be others on the forum with much more Bowen experience than I have; from Townsville its a couple of hours drive but every time I go the wind is heaps better than it is locally in the Ville! Winter avoids the stinger season, always a good thing to miss.

In North Queensland often great winter wind - Bowen and Green Island are both fabulous winter sailing spots. Flat water/ bump and jump. That Great Barrier Reef blocks the surf!
