I need to send a board and a sail interstate (from Qld to SA) does anyone have any tips / recommendations?

don't use TNT, I just sent a board to SA through them and it turned up damaged.

actually I have never had much luck with any freight companies.

thanks for the tip, turning out to be more problematic than I thought, the board doesn't have a cover either.

Get a quote online, have used them a few times , very reliable but prices have gone up

Go to any appliance store and get a cardboard fridge carton and some bubblewrap and lotsa packing tape.

I have recieved and sent via TNT, IT TAKES ABOUT 5 DAYS AND I WOULD ALLOW $150, USUALLY GO 50/50 WITH PURCHASER.

IF YOU POP INTO A WINDSURFING SHOP I AM SURE THEY WILL GIVE YOU SOME USED PACKING MATERIAL......THIS IS THE KEY TO GETTING YOUR GEAR THE UNDAMAGED.

I got a board box and a heap of packing stuff off Simon at Board Crazy, just call the shop first to get them to put a box aside for you, otherwise they usually cut them up.

I've purchased stuff via smartsend and tnt, no problems

Just need the seller to get it in heaps and the right packing

Boxes, heavily reinforced nose and tail, bubblewrap etc for board

Just got a quote from pack and send, and if I pack it and deliver it to the depot it still costs $420 to get it to Port Augusta in SA. Only $191 to Adelaide.

Will keep hunting, sausage thanks for the thread, some great leads there.

Becomes a lot of work for an old board, don't think it is going to be worth it in the end. Might need to just stay part of my collection!

I was just looking in to this as would like to purchase a board from WA. Buyer asked me to get freight quotes and organise. Called TNT they said they only do business freight?? and referred me to pack and send. They quoted me $265 and that was depot pick up/delivery only.

Called Greyhound bus freight and they quoted me $85 (again only depot pick up) and said I would need to check with Perth as they only usually take packages up to 2m in length but would probably take a board that was 245cm.

Had a board shipped from SA last year and it arrived damaged, so am now not sure about buying something from WA.

I would suggest greyhound bus freight as seem to be the cheapest, but depends if they will take the board or not? they also said to allow 9 working days for most interstate deliveries so not fast.

Hi Jamie,

I have fixed the board and in the process of putting in a claim with TNT,can't wait to get out on the water now.

Here is a link on how i pack boards for transport,if they get damaged using this system then there's not much else you can do other then physically picking up the board yourself.

try australian air express, airport to airport service, very quick, cheap but not door to door , minimal handling so little chance to get damaged if packaged up

I recently sent a board to melbourne same day - approx $100 for a short boards but you have to drop off and have collected from the airport

How do you get cheap prices like this? Is there a special rate? I tried to get a board shipped with them and after they cubed it, it was ridiculously expensive.

I thought I heard someone say that there is a 'surfboard' rate that you use. Is that correct?

i have just freighted a Kona one (350cm ) from Brisbane to Melbourne for $176 same day, airport to airport using australian air express

if less than 3 metres i believe the rate is significantly less - worth giving them a call,

Got a board coming from WA at the moment a starboard sonic. $110 was the cheapest price i could find for freight and it is due this wednesday. Three days earlier than the predicted 6-8 business days.

Couriers please I'm pretty sure. Apparently i could have done better with TNT but i would have needed to be registered I'm pretty sure
