unofficial ones have been suggested before, but it's almost impossible to get people to agree to all start at the same time from the same spot - i suspect there's the risk of one losing one's dignity when actually put to the test of a proper race

a slalom race from oatland to shearwater could work just using whatever gear one's got??

If you have any race board gear- old or new Paradise Point Sailing Club welcomes sailors of any category- boats, sailboards, pretty much anything- but racing with this club is not so much wind dependant- its part of what helps develop broader levels of sailing skill. Rather than just sailing when there are green arrows, you sail far more often, with set mark positions, usually with quite a bit of up wind and some dead down wind, instead of sailing only where it is easy or fun. Brendan (aka davecta) came down a few times, developed his skills through the PCYC sailing and up with RQ (more often) and went on to place 3rd at nationals.

Sunday race- on water start at 1:30- with or without green arrows. If you are local and you have a rig you are happy with I have one spare old race board (old F2 lightning) that you can have a try of this antiquated, unfashionable type of sailboarding. yeah I really enjoyed the few times i participated, particularly thanks to Paul, Cam & Brendan for lending their spare gear!

I'm not so keen on having a whole other set of huge gear just to be able to race, especially if i had to lug it to the race each time. If there is a cheap way of storing it all at the yacht club, I'd recon there would be quite a few who'd be interested in getting involved

A poverty version of RSX where everyone is on identical wally board but you can choose whatever sail you want (and maybe not permit harnesses), would be awesome on light wind sundays.

Looking forward to seeing both Justin and John there for the autumn series. PPSC has no racing for the next 2 weeks and then kicks back in after that. Happy to help out with gear. I've got the Speed 250 spare too!!

Paul and I had a great mini-marathon race at PPSC yesterday with Paul getting a brilliant start and I had to chase him up the first (very long) beat. We criss-crossed a few times. The NE probably got up to 18knots at times and Paul had his Equipe perfectly tuned. He really put the Phantom to the test.

Thanks for the encouraging words Brendan. Sunday was certainly one of the best times I have had on the water in years. The wind was just ideal for these larger volume long boards and I was feeling very stretched on Monday morning. Just on an hour of pretty intense competition- but alas the Phantom with the better skipper was supreme- but hey keep looking over your shoulder. invitation still stands for the old lightning if anyone else wants to give it a go without the outlay/ storage of a big race board. So just need your own rig.

I have been keeping my eye out for a wally, would be fun to get some racing on these old beasts happening on the broadwater.

Not sure I have the funds or time to look at getting a race board and all the associated equipement, but does look like a lot of fun from what I have seen of it recently.
