gloomy 01/03 pinch and a punch... only 2 windsurfers out at the pond when the wind was up.

Was a fun day. Wind died just as some others hit the water.

20 knots and no need for a wetsuit doesn't get better than that .

It's a severne s1pro pre production.. Nash, in the photos, went through his s1pro at Currumbin. I repaired it with tape. he went through the taped repair so I had the window replaced. However it stretched and lost it's shape so we have kept it as a spare.

The severne (Revolution) guys did me a solid and sold me this one used from one of the southern states as there was no stock in the size Nash needed in Australia which meant extended time off the water. Pre production sails don't have logos. I believe they are used to confirm factory production is correct and as a final qa check prior to the production run so it's a proper s1pro. Wasn't super windy so he rigged at minimum settings.

Great sail fwiw.. looks like one being used in the Margaret river video Nils shot recently too.

Looks like works are finished now. from here they begin destroying the wind by planting out the new sand bank with trees.

Had a good sail this week, out of the Bribie Bar.
- Waves were really good for jumping for a while, while the tide was low.
- As the tide came it, had some really good 3/4-mast high waves on the outside - not too hollow

Previously there was a slab-wall and very hollow, making wave-riding be a bit sketchy. There is now a really good wave, with sections where the slab as low enough for an easy'ish sail out beyond the line up.

Water depth over the sandbar had previously dried-out, but now some water most of the time. Between the sandbar and the outer waves, is now a bit deeper at about 2-3m (deeper than prior to the works).

... had to end the session when the sail decided to disintegrate !

I'm keen to try GB. It seems like a place that would take time to get to know where sandbanks are right? How tricky would it be to learn quick and have a good sail there without worrying about bottom?

About 1 min - either sail in deep water, or you can see the depth of the sand. That track in the pic, is deep to very-deep. You would have _not look_ at where you are going.

Unless you want to sail in the northern section, inside all the sandbars... then sometimes you need to depth-check in some places. Usually there will be other sailors out, so you can ask them.

Good weekend of sailing.

- First session at Bongaree / Bribie Island - long runs at 2+km per run.
- Next day overpowered on a 4.2 at Bribie Bar, good jumps and wave rides on a 1.5m swell; did get nailed once... losing the gear and having a hold-down.
- Then a nice cruise on big gear

indeed looks good ... which beach ? (... although at current fuel prices, that distance is a tough call for a day trip)

... that is the better part of 400km... typically it is Newcastle to Coffs Harbour.

Sounds like surf-etiquette persists, not sharing a secret spot.

With a 0.2m low at 5pm there wont be much water!. Since the new breakthrough a few years ago and all the dredging works there seems to be more sand than water there now! Ok in a N or NE or at high tide.

You could still try it but if you drive further south and go out from Military Jetty see ka72 tracks for our launch area there is a much longer run with only 1 sandbank to watch out for and you can see it straight out from launch area. It works great in a SE or ESE direction. Would be happy to show you around but im away.
Wind looks like it might be better on tuesday.
Ps enjoying your windsurfari to windfest vids hope you score some wind!

Ahuh this makes sense.
I know he watched one when I made him and said he actually liked it, like he doesn't like many, so that was good Enjoy the west.

All roads lead to The Golden Beach! I got a fin off a guy a few years ago who told epic stories of his moonlight rides there. Been keen to try since.

This was Saturday's track at a 0.1m - managed 80km of distance, about 12-16kn. .... ie: there is plenty of water even at the lowest tide.

I did need to look where I was going so as to not hit a sandbank - easy to see the depth, as shown on the tracks.
Glassy water for the most part, a nice speed-run, no waves this day.

@MobZ - if you aren't desperate to get to Burrum before Friday, you would be better off to stay in Sunshine Coast for the few days.

Tuesday will be the windiest day this week. You could choose one of:
- Bongaree (South Bribie) for a long-distance sail, typically 2-3km per run / 6km per lap
- Bribie Bar (Golden Beach) for a possible speed run late in the arvo Monday / Tuesday, need big gear
- Golden Beach - short runs, be very aware of sandbars

You could also look at Lake Cootharaba (launch at Boreen Pt) IMHO a bit nicer than Weyba - maps.app.goo.gl/FdFc1w9xRq9b6BzH9

Wind meters - holfuy.com/en/map/wind&la=-26.64087&lo=152.93383&z=9.0

Best wind meter for Golden Beach - IMHO very accurate measured-at-meter vs usable-while-sailing, and its forecast seems to be very close to what we end up getting. wind.willyweather.com.au/qld/sunshine-coast/north-west-10-beacon.html
