Hi heading down to the goldcoast for next 2 days. Daughter is doing a school thing!

Winds look good for my beginner/intermediate skills

I've tried to search Seabreeze (frustrating!!) for ideas. I see they sail at Broadwater could a local please post if the tide and wind are suitable for a mid day session?

Is Broadwater the most suitable venue for the next 2 days?

What precautions / hazards should I be aware of?

Cheers Jeff

The locals can advise you on more but have a look at this map for an idea of places to go. Beware of tidal flows as the can be strong if not experienced.

If the wind is south you need to head north from the train/smith street if sailing on the broadwater,KFC Can be a short run if the tide is low, i think i will be heading off the boat ramp near the grand hotel probably 10/11am.

KFC (Central st) will be a good option if your not overly experienced as the tide will be high but the wind will be stronger at Shearwater. Even though the tide is going the wrong way if the forecast is correct it won't matter too much and there isn't a huge difference between high and low today so the current shouldn't be too strong. It is the best but most advanced "flat" water sailing on the GC. I'm going there today and if the 30 knots forecast eventuates there will be a big smile ear to ear. You will need to able to sail upwind a bit though. If you can that's the spot depending on how competent you are.

I want to eat chocolate !!!!!

I decided to link up with sonic at the grand

Whilst rigging up I met a local who suggested better conditions at the train.

I stopped rigging up and about to head off when sonic arrived and reassured me the conditions were good

Frustrating day with my gear! So pulled the gear back out of the car and started setting up again.

Broke the over centre clamp on my north boom before I even got onto the water

I had and old chin nock boom that I usually use on my 5 m rig. Took too long to get it tight enough on my new mast ( little bit skinner than my 25% mast)

Then I broke the down haul line - had some spare.

Anyway got onto the water and had a great but very brief blast. Made it to the other side and halfway back

Had to swim home from middle of Chanel. The old boom broke out on the water - years of corrosion had eaten it away

What do I do now? May have to go shopping :-)
Need a boom for tomorrow

Will go and have a look at the other sites _ wind looks great

Thanks for the heads up on where to go

Cheers Jeff

I went to surfx and michael fixed boom under waranty repair - top stuff

Call out to handyman0708 for offering a loaner to get me out of trouble. Thanks

Had a chat to some lads at the Train and they suggested KFC - will go and have a look tomorrow

The urge for chocolate is passing!!!

Can't wait until tomorrow

Go for it. I think there should be a "super map' available for all to look at. This helps new people - not just to windsurfing but to the area as well.

Cheers Marty,

Yeh that's exactly what I'm trying to do: check it out schoolofsurf.com.au/windsurfing-spots

Don't have all the info for some of them but yeh it's getting there. :)

Can add new ones here: http://schoolofsurf.com.au/windsurfing-spots/add-a-new-spot

Made the map above public

short url:
goo.gl/maps/ATVwJ

Allow anyone to edit this map = true.

Had a few sails while on the coast the last two weeks. Light winds but can't complain. Good to see some familiar faces again.

Got one, cracking effortless carve gybe in the lagoon north of Wave Break which has the best gybing area I've ever experienced (incoming, almost high tide only people) and an almost planing tack that made the trip.
Got one busted up knee from failed forwards attempts.
Got one cracked boom head and dent in sail from sandbank at Central Street.
Didn't get a sail at Shearwater.
