Starting to get more and more Jellyfish every day at Manly... Hows the Goldie and Wello going ?

Sandgate is jam packed with those jellies, my legs are red raw from sundays session, put on a full wettie today just to save the legs.

They've all swum down from Yeppoon. We've had the most Snotties* I've ever seen in the water for the past 3 months but I noticed last Weekend that numbers are starting to reduce. A Marine specialist was saying that the floods flushed out a mass of juvenile jellies earlier this year and what we're seeing is them all grown up. Fun sailing through a smack** of them at speed too.

*those big harmless ones that only give a really slight tingle
** Collective noun for jellyfish - I reckon a "wobble" would be more appropriate though.

Was out on the Goldie yesterday, nothing bit of seagrass floating around but with all these Northerlies its only a matter of time

I love my NEasters but those little nasties take the fun out of it a bit. They seem to be surrounded by little bits if bities so even if you don't hit a jellyfish you still get bitten randomly all over.

Someone told me it is little bits of poisonous tenticles that break off and float around in the water. A few years back a whole heap of them went into my rashie and they stung like hell and then itched for two weeks after.

Pity bull sharks don't eat them...

PS: Looking good for this arvo, can we have a wind and jelly report at around 1.00pm Richie???

I think they are talking flat water wet willy. My suggestion is don't fall in! It is windsurfing not wind swimming haven't experienced any off the open beaches, the occasional blue bottle washed up on the beach is about it.

um...you mean to say the beaches in SEQ are full of jellyfish every summer?

no...There was a "plague" of the flockers in Moreton bay a few years back when I was still learning to windsurf. I used to fall into them a lot whilst jibing etc. Thus I bear a horrific mental scar regaring the blue menace...
There havent been any around since...Untill last week. Only a few at this stage which aint too bad..

These ones are not snotties, they're the blue ones . Sometimes they dont sting, other times they sting like a cup of hot coffee has been chucked on ya...Yes I have heard they breed up the river.The flloods would have washed them out and the constant northerlies weve been having have blown them to us.
I would call a group of them a "fluck" as this is closer to what I say when I fall into them.(or even see them)

All this time I thoughtr these were Snotties - they're the ones we have had by the millions up here too albeit ours are whiter. They can get pretty big and I nearly had a get-off hitting one this afternoon.

What do Snotties look like then?
