Sonic: The broadwater is chock full of idiots. I give way to everybody now, but it still doesn't help all the time.

Twice recently I've pointed upwind to slow down to let a boat cross my path, even though I have right-of-way. They've then proceeded to set a collision course with me, so I have to point even higher. Eventually pointed so high I was almost at a standstill and they then pass about 1cm in front of my nose. They wave as they pass. I don't think they have any idea.

One boat was a fishing charter, the other the parasail boat. You think they'd know better.

I've even come close with a police boat (for f's sake). Not too bad, I was slogging and they were doing 4 knots. At least they turned around and apologised. We were the only two moving vessels within site.

But how, how do you miss a brightly coloured windsurf sail? Is monofilm dangerous?

Looks sailable now! (for my 7m). Not sure what to take. Also if Train carpark is full I've been launching from the boat ramp next to the pool (the next street south, 50m). Less room to righ, no tap, but the grass is much greener. Makes a good down-wind run home too.

Swoosh, I know what you mean about a lack of etiquette at the Train. I'm used to sailing where starboard has right of way and lead board is clear to gybe - here it's a free for all.

That aside, today was the first day I "got" the Train. I've sailed it a couple of times mainly in a SE and it was dodgy. Today I had a solid hour and half of flat water and very little boat traffic. Even the jetskiers kept their distance. Even drove straight into a carpark.

Think Wello is the go tomorrow. I need to work on my NM and distance.

no worries. i'm surprised you could get your feet in the straps, i was adjusting the straps before you jumped on, and when i tried to sail it after you i could barely get my feet in.

ken was the guy i was talking to when you were borrowing my board.

I think I was lucky to get a park where I did considering I arrived fairly late as well. Some big accident on the highway and the bigdayout traffic kinda sucked. I suppose getting to the train and getting a park is the toughest thing.

I think the port tack run is the most favoured, so whoever is on it has "unofficial right-of-way". That said I actually had better starboard tack runs today, there was a lot of east in it, especially the bit just after crossing the main channel from sea world.

Nick: I was trying to wave and veered a little close there once.

North Kirra for me. Should be poifect water and little ramps. Again, it's a weird forecast.

[ no douchebags like one of the slalom sailing gentlemen at the train who's only obvious talent is sailing in a straight line so he demonstrates it by sailing past within inches when you are in the water. i wouldn't feel sorry if a gust flicked the sail out of the water and he copped it to the face.

I think most of the slalom guys there are pretty skillful and safe however there is no need to get too close, i wouldn't paint us all with the same brush we can respect your skill(even if it does "look" a bit chaotic) but lets not start a bitching session, a quiet word at the time was sure to get the point across. Should be a good afternoon see you all out there,kites,windsurfers, rubber ducks, kayaks, jet skis, hovercraft, sea planes,fishermen,jet boats, catamaran,swimmers,dogs,topless women on BBQ boats,12 knots Neil, did i forget anything?
