Westerlies..... now that is something different - WHAT!
We are beginners at windsurfing and not quite sure where to head in the sw wsw ssw nor nw nnw or any combination up until a couple of months ago wind in any direction meant Supping wasn't going to be fun - so didn't put the boards in the water stayed home and watched a movie. True story.
If my calculations are correct that would mean that the wind will be off shore so if we stack out on the water or if we are not so good at up-winding we will be blown out, not in like the in the easterlies. Is that right?
What is a good location for us to go in the Westerlies? Keen to get back on the board (must be nuts)
Not ready to hang the boards up just yet for the winter.

Wellington Point speed bank is the best spot, shallow and flat water.

I sailed at Sandstone Point (Oxley Place) awhile back in a 15-18knt westerly, Beautiful blasts straight out and back from the beach, the winds were going across the beach so I was able to finish a run within meters of where I started, I am still only a beginner as I dont get much time out on the water anymore due to a shoulder injury.

sandstone point is a very good spot. especially when you want to start trying to nail your shortboard skills. only good before and after high tide.
it works best in a SE wind for beginners. anything from SW to SE is good there. not so good in a WSW or W. can be a wind shadow there. in those directions it's better over at Bongaree.

Don't forget Clontarf over the road from the caravan park. Bells Beach, the other one down south is a poor imitation.

Thank you also Gestalt sounds like a good spot to try for sure at Sandstone point Bongaree - we also like to go to Golden Beach - what is it like in a westerly
Plywoodboy thanks for the tip - clontarf, is it very shallow there? We once went to brighton and had to take the fin off the board to have a ride it was six inches deep for what seemed like about 5k off shore

Clonterf is fine on lowtide, 50 m walk maximum and hopefully no jellies with a westerly. Just middle aged jet skiers trying to impress their wives.

Golden Beach is pretty bad in a Westerly not recommended.
