Hi Dave,it has been many years since I regularly sailed WODs but the early ones with the fixed dagger board did have a tendency to round up when the wind picked up especially for lighter riders.I think it was a combination of the centreboard generating more lift, the mast base being in the centre of the board (and non adjustable), and the draft moving back in the old soft sail. Back in the day of fixed CBs they released a storm dagger board option that was shorter and more swept back to try and make the board a bit more controllable when it got windy.
These days I use a raceboard that has a sliding mast track, foot straps and rotating centreboard which provides more adjustment options and and also have more stable sails (so centre of effort is more locked in). As the breeze picks up my CB is raked back a little, and my mast track is forward when going upwind, when going down wind CB is retracted, and mastrack is in back position.
I have not sailed a Wally LT, but I notice it has rotating centreboard and mast track, the board is also wider (which will give more leverage against CB lift). As the breeze picks up try flattening the sail with more tension on the down haul and out haul, rake the CB a bit (about 25mm), and move mast base forward in the track.
Unfortunately the Wally LT does not have foot straps and fully adjustable mast track like a raceboard, but I think it should be more controllable than the old WODs.
Modern sails are definitely easier to handle and more efficient than the wally sail. I would like to try the Wally LT with my Ezzy Zephyr 7.5.
I notice that some of the Wally owners have been getting together to practice for the upcoming state and national championships, might be a good opportunity to join in and learn the dark arts of wally sailing
