Hello ,I'm after some advice , I currently sail an LT windsurfer and am looking for some more performance .
I'm 84 Kg and am considering a raceboard can anyone comment on relative stability of the narrower race boards I've sailed the older original narrower windsurfer and find it very difficult to sail . Are the newer raceboard more stable . Also if I go raceboard should I go to the 9.5 sail and just learn to handle the extra size straight up , comments ?

Later model raceboards are 66-67cm wide and a little more stable than the older boards that were around 64cm wide.
I don't have much issue with stability when sailing them, only notice a slight difference when SUPing a raceboard compared to an LT/SUP.
8.5m is my favourite size sail for raceboard when cruising and racing in 15+ kns wind. I mostly use a 9.5m when racing in under 15 kns of wind. Something around 7.5m may also be a good size to start with if you don't want to use bigger sails.

Modern raceboard's offer more stability than the older ones for sure, larger sails assist with that as well, put me on a wide sup with a tiny kids sail and I am very wobbly, give me a larger sail to counter balance against and I am far more stable. In windsurfing we don't balance on our feet we balance ourselves against the sail. I do agree with Azuli start at 7.5 or what ever you currently have and go up from there

Ive got 90s Speed F1 n Starboard Phantom 380. The big Phantom has larger volume. Gets going earlier n more stable than the Speed..
But in 15kts n up the Ol Speed is much more fun.
8.5 n 7.5m sails for cruising around.
The Ol Speed is no slouch, Pb 28.7kt

28.7kn is hooking along, that's set me a challenge to see if I can can get the Mistral to go any quicker, thing about the big raceboard's is even at top speed they feel so settled.

Cammd, when i started sailing again in 2017 i had a goal of 30kts on RB ???
Not typically what an RB used for.
But a great buzz n solid achievement if accomplished.
Havnt sailed in over 12months due to bad health...
The RB 30kt PB still beckons. Haha!

I'd recon the Mistral would have a chance of cracking 30 because of the narrow pintail . Take out the CB and tape over the slot ? Pushing it deep off wind would be scary . I'd shudder to think if things started to go wrong It would be more interesting watching others going as fast as they can with the CB fully down

1.3kts to find.
It is just a Flea fart away....
