Hi Crew, im looking for fins to extend board range. Board is 258 x 72 130 litre. Ofo 48cm.Stock fin 43cm select freeride. I prefer pointer style fins.Im 105kg. Sails 7-9.5m. Would a Jp supersport 50 cm be ok for lightwind? Also have 42cm Tectonic Raptor. Or MFC H140cm. Either Ok for high wind?

The "Fast Forward". At last, a half decent name for a windsurfing board. But what's in a name? Is anyone thinking of getting the new JP Australia "Super ride" ?

weird - AHD does NOT publish sail ranges on their boards any more ??
OFO of 48 cm for many people means they do NOT go longer than a 48 cm fin ...

since i cannot find anything for AHD FF 130 sail range, I will base myself on the OFO
for me (also meatball of 105 kilos) a 48 cm fin (free-ride or pointer) is with a sail of 8.x square meters (8.0-8.5)

i have never tried a 9.5-10.0 sail on a 130 liter board ...
but i do use MUCH larger fins than 48 cm with sails that large ...
on wider , more liter boards

what i also do - not having a sail range ... is ...
take the width and divide by 10 - here 72/10 = 7.2
which for me means the ideal sail for this board - with that 43 cm fin is probably 7.0-7.5

what about high winds ??
hmmm ...
would guess 6.3 with a smaller fin - i use a 32 cm fin with a 6.3
on my Fanatic BEE 124 LTD - old, long and narrow board
not sure i would go much smaller on that AHD FF 130 board
but what do i know ??
am just an average joe windsurfer ...

Sailing 3-4days a week grows a lawn like this. No water, no fertilizer needed. Just go sail til ya drop.

My 90 kg mate happily uses a two cam 8.5 on his starboard go 129 , 72 wide with a 56 cm pointer fin.

Pope JOHN at sandstone point regularity sails his 140 (only board next to jpslw) with large variety sails and fins

lately it's becoming a semi lightwind with 50cm fin (is that correct Paddles?) and 9.5 Ezzy cheta - around 80kg

at other end of spectrum big winds 5.5 Ezzy with small fins including a weed delta in low tide mode

very wide wind fin and sail range

the jpslw doesn't come out nearly as often as it use to

cheers Jeff

Let me get this straight , you sold a 130 ltr Freeride board because you didn't like it , so you bought a 130 ltr Freeride board ?

Yeah Jeff, The Pope's AHD is the 145 litre model. He was using race fins around the 45-50cm mark and sails up to his 7.5 Ezzy with it before he would change to his JP SLW with 60-70cm fins and 7.5 or 8.5 (maybe 9.5) sails if the winds were lighter. Anyhow, he busted his 7.5 and wanted to sail the big sail on the AHD so I slipped him the 60cm race fin I got made for the Magic Ride to try and he hasn't touched the SLW since. The big fin worked well on the Magic Ride with a big sail but the Magic Ride is not as good as the old GO in light wind.

Andrew, try a 50cm+ fin when you use the 9.5 in <15kn, even bigger if you can handle it. Obviously when the wind and board speed gets up and there's some chop on the water, the tail will be walking a bit but you're big enough to hack it out. If you come down and sail with us you're welcome to try a couple of big PB fins I use on the Magic Ride to see what it feels like.

This is how it works Imax1. I bought a fixer upperer 2010 freeride. Fixed it sailed it n didnt like it. Sold it n made nice profit. Which enabled me to get a 2016 smoother riding board at the right price. I like the ride of the 149 ahd so i thought id try its 130litre lil brother.

I converted a 70 cm deep Tuttle formula fin to 52 powerbox and it is awesome with my 9.4 and 8.2
Wide big bastard lifty fin. I'm in love with it.
Big heavy me.
Use it on a 79 and 78 wide board.
Never out of control . The only time I've ever been out of control is on a race board with the C B Down.
On smaller 7.2 And 6.2 I use either crappy slow but easy 52 JP Freeride or 48 Curtis carbon pointer. Two different worlds. The pointer seems angry and very fast. Have to be careful , not a lot of careless sideways grip . When it les go I have to just about stop or go waaayyyy down wind with a cut lunch , it's better than me. And I'm suss on the strength of this featherweight fin , lighter than a sparrows fart . Makes me nervous a long way out.
Never used smaller in very choppy Port Phillip Bay. ( apart from a 30 cm x 20 cm shallow water special )
Have a 46 JP super sport and others and never used them . Need flatter water.

Hey Tardy, straps are as i recieved the board. I havnt even hit the water yet.Yep both fronts n rears definately need to be wider. Hoping to easily smash 30kts mate. Life begins at 30. RB pb=28kts Shortboardwise im setting 35kt as my pb target. Lots of tuning n practice scheduled during the coming winter months.

Paddles, if i can get down your way id be keen to experiment with fins. The right fin can make a huge difference to TOW.

After a summer with no rain and with just dirt left I'd 'kill' for a lawn that good..
