I find the Motos don't have the bottom end of the Turbos but I'm not sure of the difference between them and my OD's..
They are great in shallow water with consistent wind.
Great overpowered..remember, I'm an old weakling, hence the shallow water.. I find anything that has a luff tube that fills is a handful for me in deep choppy water..🙄

You could try out the race sails from Severne, since you already have the correct masts (I guess).

I only have two overdrives myself one 8.6 R8 and one 7.8 M4. I do like the R8 one, much lighter than the Race Reflex sails from that time, but the OD M4 doesn't give much advantage compared to a 7.8 race M1 sail that I also have. The Mach race sails are much lighter than the older reflex (race) sails, and they are only a little heavier than the OD. The weight difference is mostly felt on land and a little in the gybes, but the Mach sails have a much better drive and range compared to the OD, in my oppinion. I haven't sailed them on the same day, but I feel that the mach sails have both a better low end and a better high end. They also feel more "efficient" and once up to speed they coast better through lulls. Below 7.8m^2 they only get better and better, in terms of handling and weight, and the 7.0 M2 (race) is a real favourite of mine. So light in the hand and plenty of drive without pushing down on the board, highly recommended. 👍

So if you haven't tried the mach sails before I would recommend/suggest to try them first, before possibly moving to another brand.

PS. I'm 57 years old and around 65kg in weight.

Go the Motos. I've tried them (I sail Mach's from 2 and now have the 9's) so am used to race sails. The Motos are just as stable and efficient as the Mach really. They only lose it a bit at the top end maxed in wind, but that's typical given the 3 cam set up. Very lighter than the Machs and EASY to gybe. I had OD's back in the early days and loved them as well. You'll find them better.

I highly recommend them.

I have already changed from a Isonic 63 to a Severne Fox 95 and what a difference, so much control, confort and less physical when overpowered that i cand spend more time on water and the speeds are not so far

My pleasure to share MM, as I'e been struggling with the concept of slalom vs freerace quite a bit over the last few years, not mention spending money in the wrong directions. When you are on slalom gear, you are sailing powered. The bottom end is not better than other sails, just the top end, hence to tend to be using slalom gear in the mid to upper wind range of the sail. What i find with the motos i've got (6.4,6.8,7.2) is that you are still aiming for that mid to upper wind range use, but its in a more lightweight maneuverable package, as im still wanting to pretend that I'm still a slalom racer, even if the body doesn't think so!. A fox 95 and 6.4 moto would be a great combo.

My favorite is the 6.8 moto and a Rocket 115L/69cm, just got that extra bit of magic sauce for some reason.

I haven't got my 7.8 & 8.4 motos yet, so I'm interested in your comments JasonWave about running them on SDM's. I'm currently running 7.8&8.6 M4 OD's, set on SDM masts. I find the 7.8 a bit of an awkward size for me i never really use it that much. I use to have a 8.1 turbo, which was great size, still on a 460 mast, i could drop straight to a 7.0. I find with my 8.6 i can drop to my 7.2 or even 6.8 moto. I'm calculating that the 8.4 moto might be a bit like my old 8.1 in terms of maneuverability and bottom end.

The 8.4 is really maxed out on a 460 mast at 495 luff, you are starting to get a lot of sail area, so i wonder if a 490 SDM would be better? The boom is quite alot long than the other Motos (is jumps 10cm from the 7.8, the other sizes jump about 5cm), so the 8.4 might feel a bit different to the other sizes. Anyone willing to share their experience with their 8.4?

I'll find out once i get my 8.4 moto, as i have a 460 and 490 SDM, plus the 460RDM is use on my 7.2 moto

Hi KJ more or less same issue here, old age;-)
Even bought a secondhand 7.8 Mach 5 to re-calibrate.
Heavy to carry around compared to my OD m2 7.8, especially when wet but a joy once planing, even better stability and the rotation is maybe a little smoother on the Mach.
Wonder why you are going for all the sizes, just the luxurious option or other reasons, shouldn't 8.4 7.2 6.4 do it normally so you stay away from all the what size to rig stress?
Please keep us updated on the bigger sizes, do like MOTO option with only three masts to cover 5,2 to 8,4m2 .

if you are tending more to the freerace, then do go with the Motos. they are step in that direction from the ODs rather than the slalom direction of the Machs.

i also rode M2 ODs for some time (M3s and M4s had no development), and i tested the Motos as potential replacement .
i was not impressed by them for GPS or other more speed-oriented uses, being a step down from the ODs in many respects.
Machs would have been a more suitable replacement for my uses, but between theavailability issues in my market and SV changing the sizing – meaning i'd be between sizes most of the time – i switched brands.
