Hi All, the Robe council are looking at bringing in a $5 fee every time you drive onto long beach, article was in our local paper last night,
says they want to charge all non residents, apparently some beaches near Adelaide (onkarparinga) already do this.
scanned the article but don't know how to make it into an image to upload here.

Gonna make for a busy car park at third ramp. Surely it will be a day pass, so all up, maybe $20 if you hit the beach most days on the long weekend, I'm cool with it if like onka council the money goes to the local surf Lifesaving club or worthy community group

Yer what an intelligent move, wont even pay the wages of some one manning the entry. Fun police are at it again. Probally only worth the effort except on long weekends, holidays etc. Such a funny place, hate the tourists but happy to take the money it brings in......

Do you think it's that resident near 3rd ramp who is getting the ****s up about the Robe classic each year ?

I remember in the 2007 Robe Classic, my group accidently camped on his drive way (we pitched up our tent is pitch black and didn't see his house). He was pretty cool about it and let us stay. We made sure we were as considerate as possible (weren't noisy, left no rubbish etc). Then last year, I noticed his gate closed with a big sign and some time during the event, this gate became chained and padlocked. I saw him again as his exited the gate (I'm pretty sure it was him), but this time he looked cranky. I gave him my usual friendly wave and smile and he returned a finger as he drove past. We were camped opposite his gate.

Nothing like sponging a few more bucks off the terrorists that keep the town alive.

The report is crap - the Aldinga crew do it for a few hoursuntil 4ish on the hot days of the year - if it was going to the Surf life saving club it would be ok but supporting a lazy earn more revenue that they can waste on useless "consultantancies" and international fact finding missions / conferences(overseas piss ups) really goes against the grain

I go to robe every year for about 7 days and as you do when you go to robe, i go to the beach every day, most of the time in morning and afternoon. If a fee was to come in i wouldn't drive down as much, but at the same time I don't mind supporting the local community, especially Robe's community

Sounds like an idea that has skulked from across the border

They're always trying new revenue raising charges here in Vic! Be careful, next it will be like here & beach access via vehicle will be outlawed. Vic is constantly limiting access to beaches and the way it's going in 20 years time you won't be able to go within 100m of a Vic beach! (unless the beach access is within a city).
